98 1.8 Turbo Revvinglfishburn 08-04-2004, 05:28 PM OK, I've cured the ICU problem now why is this thing revving to 2000 and bouncing from 1800-2000 when I start it sometimes. It only last for two - three min. then goes back to normal. Also, It's flooding and won't start twice aweek with a strong smell of gas. Always when it's hot outside 95 + degrees. Here is a dumb question, does the 1.8 turbo fuel Injected engine have a throttle body to clean? Would that help? How do you get to it? boschmann 08-05-2004, 06:55 PM Yes it has a throttle body/valve & it won't hurt to clean it. It's on the left (car's left) side of the engine. lfishburn 08-06-2004, 12:38 PM Ya know, I cleaned the throttle body, I'm sure it helped somehow, but it didn't phase the revving problem. I'm stumped. I located it with ease once I knew what it looked like. It was actually on the right front of the engine facing the car. I might ask the service technition what he thinks, I'm out of guesses. 1badwgn 08-08-2004, 04:24 AM Sounds like you may need to re-adapt your idle speed or throttle body. This can only be done at the dealership or if you have a access to your own programmer such as a VAG-Com from Ross-tech. I do my own and it's fairly easy. For your 1.8T, I would highly recommend getting your own cable, you'll be glad you did. You can make many changes to increase your VW experience. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
