My '98 Montero Sport has a clicking noise coming from under the hood somewhere. I cannot for the life of me find out where it is coming from. The clicking noise accelerates as the RPMs go up, decelerate as RPMs come down. Basically sounds like a loud clock ticking. The sounds is audible from inside the vehicle if the radio is off. If radio is on at a normal volume, clicking cannot be heard.

Any ideas? First time poster.. please be gentle!!

In case anyone was interested.. oil change with special teflon coating put into system beforehand, and high mileage oil made the clicking go away.

My Montero has 198,000 on it, and its done the same thing every day for the last five years...(uhh oh) the "clicking sound" goes away after about 15 seconds of idling--after a "cold" start (*only)...
