Bought this truck for my kid..I heard a noise in the bottom end and sure enough #1 had spun a bearing.. While disassembling, found the oil pump relief valve stuck closed. {max Pressure}..I am sure this lead the the failure of the bearing and also the reason the guy before me had oil leaks around the head. {He re-did the Top End, Timing Chain Etc}

Any we we are cleaning the engine and I try to remove the PCV from the Valve Cover. It will not come out. It is steel, looks like a PCV Valve but acts like a check valve. I can push it into the valve cover but there is no way to pull it out the other side. I have used pliers and brute force but it will not pop out of the valve cover.. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? Do I need to cuss and swear at it a little more??

Also I see where the Power steering pump has vacuum hoses running to a vacuum switch or something on the pump..What is this for??? {These are in addition to the regular 2 normal hoses that connect to the steering box.}

I am also looking for decent vacuum diagrams and wiring..Needless to say that Chilton's manual does not have wiring diagram one, and the vacuum diagram is a little lacking. I have some large adjustable vacuum gizmo attached to the right hand valve cover..Of course this is not in the book either.

Any help from the board will be appreciated.

88, is this FI of carb modle. I have a 94 and will try to help on the diagram were I can. Toyota.com has an online manual that is not too bad. I think you can get subscribe for a week or something, fairly cheap. The PCV on my truck too a LOT of force to get out, this is common. As to the vaccum lines to the P/S pump I dont know off hand, I suspect a change in P/S pump load causes a change in idle speed. That thing on top if it is like my truck is the EGR valve modulator. I know the vaccum lines look scary, but if you are patient they are not that bad, just look how they are bent and how they "lay" it goes back together pretty good. Look at my old posts, I was in the same boat not too long ago.

Thanks for the reply... I did my research and here is what I found.

The switch on the Power Steering Pump is for increasing idle speed when the pump is under load. You are absolutely correct on this.

The Vacuum Gizmo I am/was talking about is for the air conditioning. I do not have a solenoid on the Fuel Injected Throttle plate so this device allows more air into the intake when the air conditioner compressor comes on.

I did put the engine in after re-assembling everything and it started. WOW!

Thanks for your input and response!
