I am replacing the stock speaker system..anyone know where i might find instructions on removing the old speaks?

Just take off the door panels, carefull not to break them, take your time.

but i do not have speaks in teh door.

Go to Stereo install, enter your car and it will give you info on how to take out your stereo....
Your speakers are connected to the dash, so to get to the speakers is the same as installing the stereo, if that makes sense.
Once you get the dash off you should be able to see where the speakers are, you then have to disconnect the factory harness and then I think you remove like 3 screws and then you got em. Hope this helps...

Okay,
I have removed these as well, its alot of the poppers as I call them that you have to pop off.

First go and open the back gate and on the plastic piece on the floor there will be like 5 or 6 plastic covers (circles) that you will have pop off to get to the screws. So pop off those six circle screw covers and then unscrew those screws.

Once you get those off, pop off the bottom piece.

Then start on the side pieces and slowly pull on them working your way around the side of them. The entire side piece in the back is going to come off. You will have to remove the seat belt bolt in the ceiling and a few more pieces. Its kinda of a search and find what needs to be removed. You just need to start going and you will see what to remove. There are four speakers in the rear. 2 on the sides and then 2 tweeters above the gate. You can also remove the top part above the gate by just pulling on the pieces. Let me know where you get and I will try to help you along the best I can.

thanks for the reply...you know what you are talking about. i got the panels off a few days ago, seems now im not getting any power to the side speaks though the tweeters in the back are getting power.

I had the same exact problem....it lies in the wiring in the head unit. Because there are only four wires 2 for the front and 2 for the back on the connector (when there should be 4 for the back)....play with the wires on the connectors to the head unit. I believe you hook all four of the speakers in the back to the 2 rear speaker wires on the connector. Its been awhile though, so I would suggest pulling the head unit out and try connecting the different wires until it works.

To me it sounds as if the HU turns on a factory amp thru the 12 auto antenna, then when you switch to cd the 12v is gone (as if you lowered a power antenna which would shutoff the amp) check the harness and see if this is true. Sounds like it is definitely a wiring issue.IMHO I would get an amp and wire directly to the speakers, better sound.

I think he is right because the power antenna wire is blue i believe for that harness. I would run the amp power to the speakers as he said, if you don't you run the risk of pulling alot of power.

I know that the blue wire off of the HU is for turning the amps on, that is the one that stays 12v as long as the stereo no matter CD or radio, so that is the one that should be hooked up to the factory amp. Still think you should go to nice amp and run directly to speakers. Do not run an amp into the factory harness because you will feed power into the factory amp and possibly destroy your aftermarket amp and/or stereo.

Just a FYI for you...Iam currently installing a complete phoenix gold system in my 95 4runner. If you plan running a couple amps this is what i did. I have pictures if you like. i took the back panel in the rear out, and where the little storage area is on each side i took that out and custom made some brackets and installed a phoenix gold 600.2 amp on each side. the nice thing about doing this when installed right the intake fan on the amp is positioned in the middle of the cover door opening, so when you reinstall the side panel, and put the small cover door on no one knows there is a amp hidden in there. If you rock out just take the stock covers off for the amp to cool or cut a 4" hole in the cover and metal mesh it and paint it. It works great and keeps people honest. A couple sterio places where i live have started installing amps in the rear after they saw how i did it. Its funny watching people try and find my 375 watt per 10" sub power source!!!!!

Yeah i had the idea to mount my speaks in there and illuminate it..i have one amp to put in there though. It's been one big pain in the ass for me..the dumbass at cirquit city hooks my back speaks to the power antenna wire so everytime i turn off the radio i have no power...so now im just going to power the rear with an amp someone gave me...im getting the wiring and everything today for the amp install, hopefully it will go smoothly
