ok i know this isn't about a grand am. But i'm thinking of trading my 95 SE to a 95 celica. its the same price as my trade-in-value. Its a nice car, and what i'm looking for, but its 100,000 miles more and needs a little body work. Has a new clutch and runs well. Interior is good. What do you guys think. Set aside the fact that i'm getting rid of the grand am. you guys think its a good trade?

Honestly, that's a tough one to answer, for one some people may be a little biased with the answer... Not that My answer will help. My suggestion get as much info on the car like common problems, any recalls etc. If you go to www.carsurvey.org people write about their car and any experiences, this is a good way to find out if there are common problems that you would find or possibly encounter with the car.

My honest own opinion is that i would never buy a toyota, they always have too many problems (every person that i've known that had one). My G/F mothers car is a corolla every time it goes to inspection it fails, there are constant electrical problems, the car constantly breaks down, and it sounds like it's made out of tin (when you bang on the hood)... i don't feel safe when i drive that car. Again though it's my opinion. Just factor in anything you want to do to the car, such as body work painting or any future repairs that maybe needed and see if it's worth it or not. Good Luck

every car has its flaws. I have read about a lot of problems with GA's on this site but ive personally never experienced anything major with my GA. My point: Even if Celicas have a lot of problems doesnt mean that urs will. Just get as much info on it as you possibly can then make ur decision from there. And like grfnkl said, check forums on it and see if there are many reoccuring problems.

Personally id stick with the GA..but thats cuz im a proud owner of one ;)

I agree with the others who responded. I have ridden in a toyota corolla recently, and it felt very light and like it was made out of tin. I was surprised because I had always thought toyotas were the best made cars. My 94 grand am has been a great car up until now, but then again it is almost at 100,000 miles so I have to expect things are going to start going.

I would never trade any American car for an asian car that has 100K more miles on it, they take miles much worse and everything in the drive train is bound to go.

oh man! 100k more! somehow i missed that in the original post but dude, 100k more is A LOT of miles! With your GA being a 95 i cant imagine anything less than 80k on it so that celica has to have close to 200k on it. I dont care how reliable toyotas supposedly are but ANY car with that many miles is ready to kill over. There cant be much life left in it. Of course i dont know the current condition of your GA either so you make the call bud.
