need some advice on a jetta

im looking at buying an '01 jetta sedan in great condition and with only 50k miles on it for about 11000 dollars...its got leather seats, heated seats, leather shifter, premium audio, 6 cd changer, moonroof, and ac...i know this is a steal at this price, but my question is how dependable are jettas, and is there any kind of an aftermarket scene with them...

Pretty dependable cars, not great, but pretty good. There is a pretty big aftermarket for 1.8t and VR6 Jettas, and not very much of one for the rest. Go find a Euro Tuner at Barnes & Noble or somethin and you'll see tons of adds for both performance and style aftermarket work. My advice is to start off with is a performance chip. The Jetta and Golf aftermarket is second only to the gigantic Honda aftermarket.

I would think that aftermarket for cars like the Camaro Z28 and Mustang 5.0 would be bigger than that of the Jetta...

im pretty sure that the jetta isn't the turbo, do you think i should pass up this deal if its only the basic model...the guy at the dealership said 170 hp but i think thats bs, more like 115 if its not the turbo model

yeah, expect 9-10 secs from 0-60. My daily driver is a 115HP VW, it just basically helps me to get from point A to B, and serves as an image, unique car on the road. Handles great though, and had no complicated mechanical problem thus far, other than changing timing belt and water pump. It's past 72K currently.

Jettas are reliable in general if and only if you take care of them. I you drive hard expect to pay quite a bit unless you plan to add mods. Besides that they set the benchmark in quality craftsmanship and material. Good price though. I bought my 01 rolla s for 10,700 with 32,063 miles in Feb and now has about 48,000 miles with no problem. Stock my car has 130hp but after upgrades it now has about 210hp. Check to see if the jetta uses the old screw type bolting system if it does it will be hard as hell to fix it.
