I need help. I have a 1987 325e and if the key is in the ignition the brake lights are on. They never go off. I tried to replace the brake light switch under the steering column but that didn't help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It sure sounds like a brake light switch. You said you tried to replace yours - does that mean you were not successful or you actually replaced it and the problem is still there? The switch position must be set correctly relative to the brake pedal or the lights will not go off. Out of curiosity, does your cruise control work now? I had a similar problem on my E30 and that's what led me to look at the brake light switch to find the problem.

I did replace the switch. I did not push down the on the "plunger" and didn't know it could be set. I will try that. I just bought the car and don't know much about it. This forum is a great. I appreciate your reply. Thanks......J.P.
