well the other night i was bringing my cavalier home from my uncles where i was working on it for the past few months soupin it up

so when im at a red light near my house off a highway junction a dude in a black 00+ mustang gt pulls up to me and im like o man i hope he doesnt notice me but the next thing i know he looks over at me and starts to rev and im like ugg ok here we go, so i rev back and the dude looks at me like i have 10 heads because of the sound my charger was making which is pretty neat i might say but i guess hes never hurd one before , well anyways the light turns green and we both go and right off the line i had him and i shut it down around 65-70 because im a pussy lol but at the end of the race he was a few lengths behind me to my suprise too sence this was my first race with the charger and other stuff i installed so i wasnt sure what it could do yet, so at the next light the guy rolls down his window and yells at me holy Sh!t dude i never knew cavaliers could be that fast, lol i just smiled and waved and gave him the thumbs up as he left to head on to the high way, thats when i check to see if he really was a gt lol and yup he had the badge and the dual exhaust so im pretty sure he was but i dunno you never know now adays but i doubt it was a non gt because i used to beat them when i was pretty much stock

o by the way before anyones calling bullsh!t on this its not :nono:
i have a 5 speed 98 Z24 that has a 2.4L gm supercharged engine running around 4.5-5psi with a cai and some other mods bringing me over the 200hp mark and my car only weights 2700lbs with me in which probley helped me out alot sense the gt coupes weight around 3400 lol with out a driver also the guy was an auto gt coupe so i guess that explains what happend sence they only run around mid to high 14's with the auto tranny and i was pullin low 15's before i even started working on my engine

but im glad with how my car is performing i worked hard to get it where its is and i cant wait to stick one of the smaller pulleys i have on there and install my new p&p and built head and cams then ill be able to hang with the big boys im hopping, my goal is to get this car into the mid-High 13's im not looking for anything nuts just enough to hang ya know and get respect for my type of car which i know is very lacking because not many people have fast cavaliers

thanks for reading :)

Good kill! You might be pretty close to high 13s already. From your cardomain site it looks like you have not done any suspension work yet. With sticky tires and some stiff suspension you should run low 14s.

=OrangeZ=
07-28-2004, 05:50 PM
i got a really awesome deal on the charger sence its about 2500 from the dealership with out any extra pulleys or belts
but i got the charger for 1800 with 3 different size pulleys and belts
the smallest pulley puts out 8-9psi and im only running half that now
the stock interals on the 2.4 can handle up to 275whp (apx 325hp) so i have alot of room to grow before i have to touch the bottom end

i have pics of my car in my car domain page there from like mid last month when i was just finishing up the exterior but i havent had a chance to post pics of the charger yet i have some old ones from 2 weeks back without the cai that i might post on there later this week ill keep ya updated

and thanks for your post so far

07-28-2004, 06:37 PM
the list of engine/boosted mods is

gm supercharger kit with the 2.8pulley (4.5psi)
stock injectors
#5 rapid fire plugs
cartech 2025 adjustable fmu set to 70psi at wot
egr simulator
00+ starter
upper and lower stiffer engine mounts
autometer lunar boost and egr gauges
** edit** forgot i have a fuel pressure gauge tapped into the fuel rail too

i also have a port and polished head thats built and ready to be put on
a set of higher flowing cams

im looking into getting stuff for my exhaust right now including a new header and high flow cat maybe some 2.5-3in piping not sure what im gonna do yet with that

take in mind the engine produces 155hp and 160ft lbs of trq stock and with a stick and a good drive they pull mid 15's in the 1/4mile

your car is a pretty common thing on jbo.org. 13's are well within reach for you. But the Z24 is stock 150HP and 155TQ, you were 5 to much either way. I want to get the supercharger soon for mine, but i got sidetracked when i got rear ended. Where did you get it for 1800 at?

im usally in the boosted forum sence the performance forum there is where all the newbs hang out lol

also just thought i would ask you guys sence your not cavalier owners why do you think almost everyone thinks cavaliers all are slow?

im thinking because of all the base models around compared to the Z24's i think its like 10:1 with base vs Z24

but i would love to hear what you guys think the reason is

-Jayson-
07-28-2004, 09:21 PM
damn it the noobs run rampent on this site, every now and then one tries to tell everyone how smart he is, this guy just pisses me off. . .seriously why would anyone even think of saying something this stupid?

ok for one... stock 2.2 is 140 Hp 150tq at the wheels.. second of all.. Pontiac is comming out with a 2.2 ecotec Turbo for the pontiac witch will coincide with the chevy 2.2 ecotec (same engine) with it u will have 220 hp add some blow off valves adds additional 20-35 hp 240-255hp now ..and u havent even touched the Main Engine.. oh and the 2.4 is faster but not out of the gate

i mean seriously?!?!?! BOV's adding HP? Adding more than One? Ecotec fast?? 140WHP Ecotec!?! CMON!!

but still where did you get the GM supercharger at for only 1800?

i got the blower from a guy on the jbody.org
he ended up blowing up his engine because he set up his emanage up totaly wrong and advanced the timing instead of retarting it and boom thats what happends when you dont know what your doing lol so my gain his lost

Raz Kaz lol theres not such thing as a Z22 lol its a dealership gimmic lol but i know of the rice you speek of lol i tryed hard not to make my car rice at all lol i hope you guys dont think it is

and jayson yeah stupid people dunno what there talking about thats why i stick manly to the boosted forum on jbo atleast half the people there know what there doing

also do you guys have a boosted forum on here i cant seem to find one

-Jayson-
07-28-2004, 11:57 PM
Z22 is nothing more than the 2.2L 115HP engine. Dealerships just put a Z22 bag on it and mark up the price. It isnt a factory car or have any performance mods, unless badges make cars go faster, then in that case im going to go buy a shit load of them.

Raz_Kaz
07-28-2004, 11:59 PM
Z22's come with 140 ponies

=OrangeZ=
07-29-2004, 12:38 AM
no there is no such thing as a Z22 period lol its a gimmic and if it says Z22 its the 2200 engine which has 115hp like i said gimmic lol

there are the new 03+ cavaliers that have the 140hp its a 2.2 ecotec engine on all models

there are also 02 ls sports that have the 2.2 ecotec aswell sense it was a oppion in that year for a 2.2eco or 2.4 tiwn cam

do not confused the ecotec with the old 2.2L or 2200 engines that only put out around 110-115hp

ether way the 2.4tc and 2.2 eco are both awesome engine and gm has made drag cars from both with over 1000hp to the ground with both of them and right now gm is killing the compatition on the drag circuit with the ecotec engine

youngvr4
07-29-2004, 12:50 AM
people think cavaliers are slow because there not fast.
just like neons and civics and the fact that people rice them out alot.
do you know what they run in the 1320 stock?

=OrangeZ=
07-29-2004, 01:34 AM
1302 you mean 1/4 mile??

if you mean 1/4 mile here are some averages

the 2.2L non eco run high 16 - low 17's
the 2.2L eco run high 15's - low 16's
the 2.4L run mid - high 15's low 15's with a awsome driver

my cuzin managed to get a 15.4 out of my car his first run and a 15.3 his second run all stock with a new clutch when we where at the track last year and i was only running high 15's low 16's because i was just starting to learning how to drive a stick that same week lol but i was doing alright for my self but i have come along way

i dunno but i dont consider mid 15's slow at all thats pretty quick for a stock car its not super fast but it is quick atleast imo
but i guess sense only 10% of all cavaliers are Z24's doesnt help the image i guess

youngvr4
07-29-2004, 02:03 AM
1302 you mean 1/4 mile??

no 1320, 1320ft in the 1/4 mile.

but yeah, like you said the slow models make it even worse. mid to low 15's isnt bad for a stock car at all. but at the same time it wasn't meant to be realy fast. i figured it was a mid 15 sec car.

note: knowledgeable enthusiast know what your car can do.

=OrangeZ=
07-29-2004, 02:37 AM
"knowledgeable enthusiast know what your car can do"

yeah thats another reason i like this site its not just j-body car guys talking and its easier to get an idea of what other cars can do and what your compatition is

but your wrong in the respect that my engine wasnt ment to be a fast engine they released a 2.3L 190hp n/a verson of my engine before the 2.4L verson of that engine even came out also to mention that they have all the parts you can buy direct from gm to make it a 1000hp drag car, one guy on the jbo site is running 11's n/a with a 2.4 sunfire and gm got this engine running 7's so its not that it wasnt ment to be a fast racing engine it just wasnt ever produced or marketed as that with the exeption of the HO 2.3 which is the 190hp one

same with the ecotec engine it was actualy built with performance in mind down the road they are now coming out with a 2.4L verson with 170hp 170ftlb trq and a destroked 2.0 s/c verson pushing over 200whp in its stock forum you can also buy parts direct from gm to make your own 7sec / 1000hp drag car

the problem is no one that own jbodys have the money to afford the parts from gm to make them that fast lol there econo type cars after all and targeted at that crowed which is a shame but gm is pickin it up with the new ecotech so im glad for that

=OrangeZ=
07-29-2004, 02:40 AM
o yeah dont get me wrong im not saying this engine is unbeatable or that other engines suck because thats totaly not true for example just look at your the 3000gt vr4 they have some major power potential too and would have a higher potential of being streetable at the levels i was talking about with the 2.4 and 2.2 engines where as they would be strictley drag cars at that point

youngvr4
07-29-2004, 03:05 AM
i was speaking more on the engine its self. if it was meant for big power, wouldnt it be able to hold more than 450hp on stock internals? i mean if that was its purpose. there's civics running 9's also but by no means was the engine made to be really fast.

*thinking to myself*maybe not if its a 4 banger

=OrangeZ=
07-29-2004, 03:10 AM
no you are right on that anything can be made fast i guess i was just confused by what you ment

youngvr4

-Jayson-
07-29-2004, 01:49 PM
if the cavalier isnt a Z24 its not fast, but Z24s can put down mid to high 15's stock. My auto can run 15.8-15.9 stock. I know thats not really fast, but for stock thats pretty good.

-Jayson-
07-30-2004, 11:59 AM
yes 2005 is the last year of the cavalier, then its the cobolt. The cobalt SS is gonna be a 2.0 Ecotec supercharged to 205HP. Its made on the new delta platform. Its gonna be in the price range of a SRT-4, Redline, SVT focus, all the cheaper smaller fast cars.

07-30-2004, 05:38 PM
thats going to be cool now gm is geting with the program but i feel the best thing for gm to do is do what they did a long time ago put bigger engines in smaller cars I would love to drive a Cav with a 3800 V6 or something like that just be different you know what i mean??? bigger engines in small cars in my opinion is a "untapped" market (I hope some Gm guy is reading this!!)

No they dont :grinno:

=OrangeZ=
07-30-2004, 11:46 PM
oo well thats just what i seen from reading posts on the net from mustang gt owners thats what i found

besides my car is probley only in the low -mid 14's

ether that or im running lean and putting down more power then should be safe but i doubt that

the weight to power to weight ratio would be still be in my favor where the gt would be around 15.6 and mine 14.8 both talking in reguards of the power to the wheels (whp to weight) but the mustangs have better gearing in than my car with the 5speed verson so like i said maybe a drivers race i dunno but i hope to race another one soon but a 5 speed this time to see how i do because i hurd the autos gearing sucks and that its there downfall

Nice looking Z:

ok...no one can refer to a cavalier z24 as a "Z"...this title and badge are reserved for nissan z cars only...he has done some good work on his car...but it is not a z car by any strecth of the imagination...heres just too much history and heritage to be throwing that title around...now...lets all have a moment of silence for all the true z cars out there... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...thank you

back to topic, nice kill and very nice car man. your next race should be against a lightly modded DSM.

07-31-2004, 07:40 PM
chevy been using the Z name sence the 60's and has a huge line of cars that are all badged with the Z and i would say has a larger history and heritage then the nissian Z cars atleast here in the US i know that deffinatly the case maybe in europe its different but i dont live there

its true my car isnt a Z in the sence your talking about 240Z,300ZX,350Z ect

but my car is a Z from the chevy line its a Z24 lol
hey im not the one who named it and if you have something against it dont blame me lol

so to say my car isnt a Z is like saying to someone who owns a celica gt isnt a true gt becuase its not a GT500 lol or something like that

Z is just a badge like ex: gt and it isnt owned by anyone so get over it and dont go trying to make it a one company thing because im sure not i dont beleave it belongs to chevy or nissian or anyone else

im sorry if i offend anyone with this post becuase i dont mean to i just had to get that off my chest

and 96TSi im gonna be racing my friend in his 91 gst should be a good race and im from RI

Z car dude Z car i do not have a Z car

i have a "Z verson" of a car but not a "Z car" get it right

the nissian cars only numbers in front of the Z and its part of the cars name like 350Z which is the type of car making it a Z car, where as a z28 is the verson of a car

my car is a Z but its not a Z car plain and simple

all automotive people in reguards to the nissians Z series calls them Zcars not Z's sence they would possibley confuse people into thinking they where talking about something else like a chevy Z if you even watched automotive shows like auto weekly or anything of the such you would know what im talking about

among the Z car commuinity they are just called Z's which is all right if your in that situation but this is a automotive site which a bunch of different cars, but people in the chevy commuinty all reguards to there cars as Z's but never as a Z car

the dude never said my car was a "Z car" now did he, he only said Z as inreguards to my car being a Z24 and not a normal cavalier and sence we where on the topic of cavaliers i still find it acceptable but crazy people gotta come along acting all childish and gooo no no no thats only mine not yours when in fact it doesnt belong to anyone

kinda stupid huh

MikeLee2484
08-01-2004, 02:25 AM
ok whatever...the guy did not say it was a z car...but when "z" is thrown out in a conversation...i think of nissan...if i hear z28, z34, z24, z71 or whatever then i think i chevy...i just have a lot of respect for z cars...so if you really want to use z fine...just dont be using it for your tahoe..."hey sweet tahoe dude"..."yeah its a z71"..."oh man its a z?!?!" not that i dont like tahoes...but the z name would start to lose its flavor i think...but thats just what i think...anyway...cool car...nice kill

=OrangeZ=
08-01-2004, 03:18 AM
i have alot of respect for the Zcars too one of my fav cars is a 300Zx i think there really sweet and the color of my car is off of a 350Z which i also love and would possibley like as my next car

and it was very clear that the guy wasnt refering to my car as a nissan Zcar sense we are talking about mustangs and cavaliers here and there was no reason for someone to come along and say something very childish like that

i have the uttmost respect for both Z cars and Z verson which is why i dont like it when people go around flanting stupid argumentive stuff it just get me mad

but your right gm is gettinga little crazy and putting the Z name on everything and disgracing it which also upsets me alot but your right a fricken tahoe shouldnt even be a Z of any kind

they 2 different types of Z's one will come to mind before the other its obviously depending on who you are, the import crowd will will think nissan Zcars and the domestic crowd will think Chevy Z versons its simple as that

i my self dont like to assume and will always ask unless its clear on what type we are talking about

-The Stig-
08-01-2004, 03:55 AM
In the Automotive world, a Z is always going to be a Nissan.

The Chevrolet 'Z' is always referred to it's full code. I.E. Z28, Z24, Z71, Z11, Z51, Z06.
