Unfortunately my truck was stolen and I had no theft coverage on the truck so I had to piece the truck back together from junkyards and fleabay. I bought a computer that was meant for a 1998 Suburban and I got it to work in my 1998 Yukon. I was wondering whether it is possible to reflash the computer to the Yukon specs or whether it is impossible and that I have to buy a new computer.
Thanks for any answers

they are flashable by a dealer. but I would think they are very similiar if not the same. some differences may include.
the rear end ratio may be different, the motor, and emmisions.
they can flash it by your VIN

Thats what I thought too. I brought it in and they stated they called Gm and said it could not be done and said VIN was burned into chip. All I ended up getting was a "cannot be done" and a eighty dollar bill for their troubles.

Without knowing for sure since I don't have any info to directly either validate or disprove your dealer's claim that it can't be done, I can say that it could very well be possible--Westers offers reprogrammed performance PCMs for many GM vehicles, including your 98 truck...that in itself proves that a VIN can be flashed into your model year PCM, although one would have to ask Westers just to be sure.
I'm not trying to push Westers on you, just offering you some proof that VIN reflashing on your PCM may very well be possible.

I will definately ask them. I just hate wasting 80 dollars to get nothing accomplished and to be only told that they want me to spend five hundred more.
