I recently pondered the same thing. If you run your fingers along the in openings where the emergency break is, you find that each switch that is in the console has a plastic rectangular backing with screws on the top and bottom holding the switch in the console. I have not changed mine yet, but I'm guessing you could use an offset screwdriver and remove this backing and the light bulbs should be housed in the switch. Hey it's worth a try. If I do it first, I will let you know.

Ok heres the deal on that. What you need to do is take off the whole center console. And its kind of a bitch the first time you do it.
There are screws below the armrests on either side. Then pop out the piece that surrounds the shifter and also the floor piece under the e-brake remove those screws. Also up front there are two screws under the center column. It should pull up. However, the wireharness for the power window switches wont let it come up too much, so you will need to reach underneath and unclip them. Then take off the whole center console and bring it inside. Flip it over and you will see the switch assemblies screwed up to the console. Unscrew them and you can *TRY* taking them apart. Some do, some dont. I tried taking one apart and you couldnt get to the bulb becuase there were pieces attached covering the bulb...soo good luck! :)
