'00 explorer idling up and down when i start it up.tacoma man. 07-26-2004, 06:52 PM this has happened before and it was the idle air screw on the throttle body. i messed with it to see if that was it and its still doing it. im beginning to think that its the air mass flo sensor. how much are they? and i also think that it could be a vacuum hose collapsed or rotten. please if anyone has any suggestions or answers i would appreciate it. Jamie TBeck2000 07-27-2004, 03:37 PM If it's the mass air flow sensor, there should be a code stored in the computer. I would check the vacuum hoses with a little puff of ether to see if the engine idles higher in a specific area. The Explorer has a small canister on the intake manifold. I think it's called the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. It's a small cylinder about the size of a roll of film. I took mine off and sprayed carb cleaner in it to clean it out. A black liquid poured out of the hole in it when I turned it over. I think this gets gunked up over a period of time and causes idling problems. Car Pal 07-28-2004, 08:14 PM idle issues are usually the result of vacuum leaks, or if the a/c is on the freon could be low. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
