I have a 2002 VW Passat 1.9 TDI 130 bhp and am delighted with it other than a particular problem which no-one seems to be able to sort.

When the outside temperature is under around 5-6C and the heater is on, if I drive around a roundabout, there is a noticeable cold air draught around the gearstick area.

At first, my local VW appeared to be un-interested in this problem and looked at me as if I was a bit crazy, but soon after the service manager reported the same problem with his new Passat. Investigations began but they could not find the cause.

I contacted VW who again asked the dealer to investigate further. The response came back that the draught was being caused by the climate control and airflow around the dash area. They stated that it was not a manufacturing defect and have refused to do anything about it.

If anyone else has found this problem with their Passat and have found a solution, I’d be really interested to know, or if anyone might have an idea as to where I go from here, it would be appreciated.

Try another stealership just for fun.

Sometimes, just to get your buisness a stealership will try harder to resolve your problem.
