The "Story of Hyde" can be found here:
http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/Hyde.htm

Hyde is a street driven 1991 Turbo MR2 with 198,000 miles on the original-unopened engine.
The tracks numbers in my siggy were done on my last "tune" of 308 rwhp @ 20 psi of boost ... but I raced at 22-23 psi (so figure anbother 20-25 rwhp over the tune.
I was driving around the street at 15-17 psi at 258-278 rwhp range.

I recently installed a new intake manifold (See MR2 forum on here) and got 302 rwhp @ 15 psi and 344 rwhp @ 20 psi.

The 15 psi figures are pump gas.
The 20+ psi figures are race gas (110 leaded).

For daily use I either drive Jekyl (white 91 NA MR2) or my recently aquired 86 MR2. Although Hyde is 100% streetable, his street miles are mostly driving to and from the track and other events.
With all of the decals that are now on the car and the loud exhaust, he draws more attention than is desirable during daily drives.

Feel free to ask anything, I have no secrets and most of what I have done is on my Web site.
If you click on Hyde's track history I list what I upgraded at each stage to improve mt ETs.

:smokin:

How to make my old beast do that?!!

Besides selling it and getting something else of course. I have a plan for a 502 crate engine, any other suggestions? Just asking since we're kinda on the topic.

Built Transmission... and a built 12-bolt rearend with at least 3.73 gears or steeper.

Leaving the crate motor stock? or doing anything too it? Which Crate motor we talking? The ZZ502 performance motor? or the Stump Puller with only 338hp, but 512ft-lbs at like 2800rpm.

Go with the 572 big block (ZZ572/620). It has 620 hp, 660 lbs-tq. But it does cost around $12k!!

Seriously though, RedKneck is correct: your tranny and gear will effect your time considerably. I would personally go with a gear atleast in the .4s, but I guess your car would be a daily driver as well, so .373 would do.

Thanks Pistolpete, I knwo it is hard to tell with Internet photos, but Hyde is actually "aquamirine pearl" ... it is a metallic seawater color (greenish), but the hood, trunk, spoiler and engine deck lid are all black. :D

ZZ502 performance motor

I believe that's what it's called...forget the torque it makes, but has 502hp right out of the box. I'm thinking headers, intercooler, haven't decided on s/c or turbo yet, definitely intake and exhaust, ports polished, just the top of my list.

As far as gears i'm thinking 3.73 limited slip/posi trac, possibly a 4.10 limited slip/posi trac.

Transmission sure as hell isn't staying stock! I gotta find something like a 4 speed auto (just like the idea of the 4 spd) that can handle the power...the plan has waaay to much energy and to big of a car for me to attempt a stick shift, even with my driving experience.

Have a budget of about 30 grand that i'm saving for over the next 3 years...i only ask cuz i'm taking notes for then. Basically i'm looking to make the old beast run a 5 second 0-60mph and about a 12.0 1/4 mile. Even better from this plan would be fine by me!! It will take alot to do, but i think a 'broken down' old sedan like mine blowing the doors off unsuspecting victims will be worth the expense. And street legal is the key, hehe.

30K you could have a stage 4.1 (272 cid) Turbo buick in that beast making 750-850+ HP (depending on where you would set the boost and more toque than you would want to know for 15k (for the top of the line stuff no holds barred) then spend the 15 k on rearend and drivetrain/other stuff that you need

Turbo buick in that beast

How well with the GN's V6 take to the necessary mods that will be necessary? I may be underestimating the reliablilty they have, but i'm a BIG fan of big V8 as opposed to a smaller V6 making all that power.

After that kind of investment i'll be keeping the car for a long time you see!
