Hi all
I have a 1991 ford explorer that has recently stopped going at all in OD. The tranny never slipped before and still don't in the first three gears and has lots of power all the time...Reverse works well also. I was driving home one evening and all of a sudden it went into nutreal and coasted to a stop...I checked the fluid and a couple other things and tried to get it to go for me but all the car would do was rock when i raced the engine in OD.. I have no clue why i tried at the time but it would go in Reverse and third gears, so i pulled out and it shifted fine and i came on home...I have checked all fuses to find one that might control the electronic shift on the tranny but nothing does. I was thinking of changing the electronic shift module as i have one here where i bought another 1991 explorer just for parts and i came across a site for tranny's called www.atcdg.com and it states in their bullitin that the adjustment of the band in the 90 and 91 one ford explorer has to be to 10 foot lbs then turned out 31/2 turns instead of the usual 11/2 turns.. I know when i changed the oil a couple months before this happened my nephew found one of the lock nuts loose on the adjustment for the bands and just tightened it back up...Can someone please suggest another reason for this problem or tell me what one (The front or the back) is the one to adjust the OD on the A4LD tranny as i have no clue, and i'm sure the other one don't turn out three and a half turns....I thank you for your response and any light you might be able to shed on this problem..
Thank you very much
Joe
