The Transmission System Malfunction light has just come on. From reading the manual all it suggests is taking to a dealership. Is there anything I can check first or fluids to top up before paying the high UK dealer prices for something that might be simple?

I just had the same thing happen. I went to the local Auto Zone parts store where they checked the computer and came up with code P0715 which is the turbine speed sensor. My check eng light also came on after driving for a while. I am still checking to see what it takes to change this. I have also had the light come on when going through water and just turning the car off and then back on fixed that. I will follow up later with what I find on my car.

I just bought a 1999 323I and the warning light that look like a gear came right beside the letter " D " I also turned off the car and it also went away . it came on after a vary hard brake. if you find out some thing please let me know.
