speed sensor question

just a quick question, does the speed sensor control the tachometer along with the speedometer? Or does the tach have a different sensor?

sensors are different.
speed sensor seats on main shaft of transmission.
i'm not sure about techometer, but i believe its a crank position sensor that sends signal to tachometer thru ECU.
