Master Brake Cylinder with 300zx brakesZilverZilvia 07-24-2004, 04:14 PM I have been looking into the 5 lug swap for my 93 240 hatch for a while now, and i want to go with 300zx brakes all around. I know about all the work needed for the rear and the ebrake location thing, but i have read in many places that the Master Brake Cylinder on a stock 240 is terrible with this setup. Since i do not yet have an sr20 swapped in, but i do want it in the future (saving up for it), I was wondering if the MBC in the sr20 is any better than my existing ka one? I know you can swap out to the 300zx MBC with a KA (which i have also heard works magic), but can you also use it with a SR? Are they mounted differently? I tried to find in in faq but i didnt, but if its there im very sorry. SR20DETpower 07-24-2004, 08:35 PM get one from a z32... z32 rotors calipers z32 master cylinder makes sense to me ZilverZilvia 07-25-2004, 12:54 AM I am defenitly swapping the mbc no matter what, either with the z32s or the one that comes with the sr20 front clip, most likely going to be from an s13 (in which case ill have to postpone the 5 lug conversion until i do get the sr in there). So my questions are, 1.) which one would work better with the z32s brakes all around, the z32's or the one used with the stock sr (s13 front clip)? 2.) Is the mbc mounted in the same place as the sr? 3.) can i use the usdm z32 mbc with the sr? The only reason i ask 2 and 3 is because i want to have the brakes done before my sr swap, and i dont want all my hard work (and $$$) gone to waste if i cant use it with the sr. SHO411 07-25-2004, 10:08 AM just use the one off the Z32, and besides most front clips from what I thought (don't quote me), don't come with brake hardware. The Sr I would think would bolt up, but since it is a RHD, the line fittings will be on the wrong side, forcing you to re-route the brake lines. And the Z32 MC is cheaper, around $10-40 at your local yard. SR20DETpower 07-25-2004, 10:35 AM the z32 one is going to be WAY better, what are you not understanding? your going to use a 300zx brake setup, why wouldnt the master cylinder from that car be the one to use? lol why step down to a silvia master cylinder that needs to be modified anyway when you are upgrading your brakes _/_/_/M aurice 07-25-2004, 12:13 PM Why not use S14 parts for the suspension and rear brakes, but use Z32 calipers/rotors for the fronts? You don't need the Z32 m/c if you just have Z32 front brakes. S14 rear brakes are bascally the same as S13, so you shouldn't have any problems there. Not to mention that S14 suspension lines right up (almost) and has the same bolt pattern as Z32. ZilverZilvia 07-25-2004, 03:40 PM Why not use S14 parts for the suspension and rear brakes, but use Z32 calipers/rotors for the fronts? You don't need the Z32 m/c if you just have Z32 front brakes. S14 rear brakes are bascally the same as S13, so you shouldn't have any problems there. The reason why i want Z32 brakes all around is because Im worried about the rear locking up before the front, and i know that the z32 mbc is already balanced nicely to those calipers. What size is the S14 rear brakes anyway (same as z32?) and would this be true with the S14 rear brakes? But, i just read that when you have the z32 rear brakes (5 lug swap with everything needed for that), you need the rear suspension for the z32??? If that is true, and since i am on a tight budget, i might go with the s14 brakes/hubs/anything else needed in the rear. The Sr I would think would bolt up, but since it is a RHD, the line fittings will be on the wrong side, forcing you to re-route the brake lines. Since i was going to get new braided brake lines to replace the old ones, will these work (long enough) with the sr since i will have to reroute them? If they dont, ill just stick with the stock brakelines and upgrade them with later when i do install the sr. Chuki_breath 07-25-2004, 07:04 PM or you could just buy the z32 brake kit from heavy throttle.com with rotors pre drilled for 4 lug and save yourself all the damn hassle. But if you really want the 5 lug i guess you cant do that. I think there like $850 for all four 30mm calipers, rotors, and lines. ZilverZilvia 07-25-2004, 07:26 PM $850!!??!? i can pull rotors-calipers-ebrake cable off ebay for max $300. Then $450 for GTO front 4-5 lug. So mabe $850 for EVERYTHING, not just the rotors calipers and lines. Do i have to replace the rotors if there a little rusty? Chuki_breath 07-25-2004, 08:27 PM yea but they look like someone took a shit on them....just check the site out there not bad you can get aluminum or iron. ZilverZilvia 07-25-2004, 08:49 PM Also, how much would it be just for new STOCK rotors and calipers all around, 30mm iron or aluminum? But so what if they look like shit, you can always clean it up, as long as everything is still in good working condition, and you save for other stuff. On the site it seams that they have aftermarket rotors and lines, AND they're drilled to 4 lug. I much rather have 5 for future wheel and brake upgrades, and stock rotors since i am using it pretty much just for everyday driving, with the occasional track day. But thanks for the suggestion, it did cross my mind to do that. You guys are the best. SHO411 07-26-2004, 12:55 PM You might want to get the Z32 all around or else you are creating a weak link which will be your rear calipers. I paid $150 for all four Z32 calipers, I got the aluminum ones cuz they are lighter reducing unsprung weight. You don't need to switch to Z32 rear suspension, you do need the Z32 Spindle, which is all aluminum making it eve lighter, I swapped this my self at home. The only diff is in the shocks, Z32 shocks mount diff from S14, you will have to moify the bottom mounting bracket. ZilverZilvia 07-26-2004, 01:06 PM For now i would just modify my stock shocks, but in the future i want to upgrade to coilovers. i dont want to just weld stuff on to them, and i already have my heart set on tein's HA. Would i be able to custom order these (for the s13 with z32 bottom mounting for the rears)? i dont want to spend MUCH more money than the original price. Also, is there coilovers already made for this? What do you have SHO411? ZilverZilvia 07-26-2004, 01:09 PM Ha, i think i should change the thread name to "Everything about the 300zx Brakes" vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
