i was coming home from andover mass, which is about 1 hour from where i live tonight at about 2:30 and i saw a black trans am on the highway and no one was aorund so i figure why not... i raced him about 5 times from around an 80 roll and stayed even, or pulled about a car length up to 120, then we both took the same exit and i saw him starting to pull two lanes over so we could both floor it and we did, from a 30 roll, up to about 125 he only pulled about 2.5 lengths, i was very surprised, and i had 2 buddies in my car and he was solo, does this sound weird to anyone else?

It had to be a newer V6 (200HP).

Which would make it a Firebird... not a Trans Am.

it had the dual twin tip stock trans am exhaust, and im pretty sure it said trans am on the lower front part of the passenger side door, i know it sounds weird but maybe he had like 200k miles on it or something

350 doesnt quit.

He was probably a crappy driver.

Tran's am would have eaten you alive, Had to be a V6 or the guy seriously doesn't know how to drive.

trans ams are easily distinguished by Firebirds by a more aggressive body trim with a spoiler that actually gaps from trunk.

And the rear tail lights have a black honeycomb mesh inside of them. Firebirds have just red with no pretty design.

Oh, and you could get the V6 models with a sport exhaust. Which gave the a dual exhaust look. I believe it was good for, 5hp.

My buddies mom had a '95 Black Camaro V6 auto with it. His dad had a '95 Red Camaro Z28 auto. Cool family.

alright, ill tell you right now, it had to be a crappy driver and an exhausted motor, im positive it was a trans am, it had the raised spoiler, and the mesh tail lights. i know it doesnt make sense, seeing as i had 2 extra people in my car and i still hung with him... but hey, sometimes you get lucky.. btw that same drive home i was in the middle of a three lane highway cruising at 80 with a new GLI and an RSX on each side of me for like 10 miles , no one made a move though... shitty

Maybe he was just playing with you and wanted to see how fast your car was.

I thought only 98 and up tran's am's had the honeycomb along with the ls1.

I raced a 96-97ish trans am with no honey comb and it deff was an lt1 equipped car.

Might of been a Formula?

I don't know, it was black and it was at night. It had no honeycomb on the tail's and it deff was a v8, I barely pulled him spraying.

If it was a 96, and a T/A, then it definetely was an LT1 (285 hp). It shouldn't have had any scoops on the front either (unless it had the ram air option, and I'm not even sure they offered that on T/As in 96).

The LS1 wasn't around in 96 in any GM car. It came out in 97 in the C5 Vette, and then was available in 98 model F-bodies.

the guy driving the trans-am, maybe just wanted to see how fast u were willing to go.

Ram Air was an option in 96... but the Firechicken was still able to have the hoodscoop with the Firehawk option.. only on Formulas though I believe :)

and this story is uhh weird... Must have not downshifted :uhoh:

If you trapped around 98mph then it would have been a little more believable.

Heard that man. I knew the Camaro SS came back for 96 with the LT4 engine and 305 hp. But I couldn't remember if the T/As got it or not.

And you made a good point. Maybe the T/A didn't down shift to just see if he could win???

that would definetly make sence for all the races from 80 up but when we raced from 30 he definetly floored it, he pulled hard at first and then only slowly gained until i let off at like 130

Well, maybe when he seen he was pulling hard, he let up, or missed a shift?

Those cars just don't let up. They are very strong on top end. Unless its just like what you think, and the engine was shot, you shouldn't have been able to even read the guys plates at 130 mph.

Judging from your 60 ft. times, you probably coudl stay close (if not dead even) in that distance, but I think even the worst driver could run 14.50s in a T/A.

But I dont know. Those cars def. get run hard, and by it being a 96 model, he may have been gutted.

Maybe he wanted to see if he could beat you in 3rd gear starting out at 30 mph...lol I've heard of the V8 F-body guys doing that. It also could have been a V6 where the driver made it look like a Trans-Am. It's been done before.
