96 Z71 Catalytic ConverterYBNRML 07-23-2004, 09:25 AM I purchased a 96 Z71 with the 5.7ltr. When I purchased the truck it did not have any catalytic converters and it does have the 02 sensors in front and back. I sometimes have a heavy foot and I just checked my gas mileage and it is approx. 10 miles to the gallon. I also notice that it just does not have the low end torque my 00 5.3ltr has (not even close). My question is - can the missing catalytic converters do this?? The truck has 150,000 miles. I just changed the waterpump, belt, hoses, plugs (AC Delco Rapid Fire), wires (Bosch), All the fluids i.e. T. case, transmission and differentials. I plan want to install the K&N air flow system but I just dont know if it will make that much of a differance. Faze2183 07-26-2004, 01:01 PM throw them back on there!!!! because a guy that cuts our grass said his sisters bf one weekend cut them off and threw some stright pipes ont here and it ran like crap....because something about the 96 and 97s need all the back perssure or something thats what a couple performance shops have told me YBNRML 07-26-2004, 08:09 PM I already plan on doing just that, infact, I already purchased two high flow Magnaflow cats. Silverado Brethern 07-27-2004, 06:27 PM does anyone have high flow converters?? and are they worth the $80 each?? YBNRML 07-27-2004, 09:47 PM I paid $59.00ea from performancepedler.com Silverado Brethern 07-27-2004, 10:52 PM ok good deal. but are they worth cutting off the OEM cats and putting them on? YBNRML 07-28-2004, 07:35 PM I dont know yet I am installing them this weekend. I have been told that they are a good replacement. It will cost me about 50.00 to have them installed. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
