High Idle, 22R-E to 22Rslippy4 07-23-2004, 01:16 AM Hi, I have a 1988 Toyota Pickup with the 22R-E motor in it. Well i also have a 83 pickup that i bought off a friend for 75.00 with the 22R motor in it. well within the last 3 weeks ive put a new cam, headgasket, oil pan gasket, intake gasket and a hedmen header on the 22-R motor and also cleaned it all up as the motor has been sitting the last 2 years. however i did have the truck running and driving about a month and a half ago untill the tranny blew out (which i knew was going to happen) well the motor ran perfect the only thing is when it idled after about 5-20 seconds of idleing it would start to die then idle back up and do the same thing. well ive sinced dropped the motor into the 88 pickup and just got it running today, however the only problem i have with it is it idles at about 1500-1800 and i cant get it back down. i also have no vaccum lines hooked up but where there was lines i have them all plugged off (to everythig, carb, distributer) ive also got the electric fuel pump in the tank hooked up and the lines are running to the mechanical pump then to the carb. now my question is why is it idleing so high, could it be the vaccum lines or is it possiably the high pressure pump is going past the mechanical pump and forcing fuel into the carb bowl when it isnt needed? slippy4 07-23-2004, 01:37 PM took it out for the first test drive today, it still idles high even after unplugging the fuel pump in the tank. it missis a very little bit when idleing at 1500 and when you drive and start to stop it wants to die all the time and mostly does unless you hit the gas then you can save it. would it be that the timing is still off? or is it fuel related? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
