Does the catalytic conveter have a sensor on it, if so can the car operate without the converter. Any info. will help, thanks.

yep,2 sensors. they monitor gasses from the engine.
federal emissions law requires these to be funcional because if your engine is not running right ,it adds to the smog problem. if your catylitic converter is not working properly, the processor can see this through the sensors.
