92 Accord LX Shifting PloblemsChaddeems 07-22-2004, 11:33 AM I have an automatic accord lx and it is very very hard to shift from and to park. It gets harder and harder every day. Can any one help. ProMan 07-23-2004, 09:34 AM It could be the solinoid in the locking mechanism that prevents you from moving the stick out from parking without depress the brake padel first. Step on the brake and see if you hear a click-like sound near the shift stick. Also, there is a "Lock Release" key slot aside the stick. You can insert and push down the car key to manually unlock the mechanism. Of course, it could be your tranny also. But I hope it's something easy. Good luck. ProMan 07-23-2004, 09:44 AM Just FYI, my 92 Accord had the similar problem for about a year, but it's difficult to shift it out only every morning. After the first shift, it's no problem. Last week my wife left a can of coke in the car and it exploded under the heat (yes, what a mess). I end up with taking off the center console to clean it up. I found there was some dark stuff on the mechanism. It turned out to be leftover from spilled drink long time ago. So it's the sticky sugar that glued the mechanism together overnight. I used water and toothbrush to clean it. It shifts so smooth now. Chaddeems 08-05-2004, 10:04 AM well i tore the shifter apart this weekend and that was not the problem. I has to be in the transmission or the shifting cable. Any ideas? AccordCodger 08-05-2004, 11:21 AM My money's on the shifter cable. Had the same problem myself. ProMan 08-05-2004, 04:40 PM If this happens every time you move the stick out of park, then it may be your cable got stuck at the cover. You need to go under the car and take the cover off. See if the cable's wires break and stick out that prevent the movement. Chaddeems 08-05-2004, 04:43 PM i thought is was the shifter with something on it because in the morning its really hard to shift but later in the day it becomes easier. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
