1989 325I overheatingBoinggg 07-21-2004, 01:21 PM My 1989 325i is overheating. I have changed the thermostat and checked the hoses for warmth, theyre all hot. I bled the system and everything seems fine but the problem still persists. Please Help! jeffreyb4me 07-21-2004, 08:14 PM Are you SURE it's overheating?, or is the gauge just reading strangely.............this is common, see some of the other posts.............................jeffb. Boinggg 07-21-2004, 09:16 PM Yes positive about the overheating the antifreeze is being emptied out the reserve tank...... jeffreyb4me 07-21-2004, 09:59 PM ok, a few more questions: does it ony run hot @ idle? does the oil look whitish? [open the oil cap] does the tank cap look whitish? how old is the fan clutch? you said the lower rad. hose IS hot? [not cold?] I'll be bach....................... beemer5 10-04-2004, 11:03 AM just something to check, I had a problem where the heater hose had a small hole in, the antifreeze was going on the side of the motor and evaporating. the way I found it..was with the motor hot I stood on the side looking at all the hoses as I raced the motor.. just something to check.. Boinggg 10-04-2004, 11:14 AM I thank you all for your responses.OK don't know how old fan clutch is.Car will run hot but when it idles it definitely overheats and tossess out anti-freeze.I checked the hoses this morning and found theat the bottom rad hose was very kool while all the others were warm.I also checked for signs of a blown headgasket and no milky substance in oil or in resevoir.I'm kinda leaning towards the water pump but i tok the belt off the other day and it spun freely did'nt seem to be any problem not sure if thats a reason to completely eliminate that.Again thanx for all your support. kazzoo 10-04-2004, 01:02 PM I'd bleed the system again, just to be sure. Boinggg 10-04-2004, 10:51 PM Thanx guys, found very small hole in a hose then it seemed like forever to bleed correctly. So much air in there but after about 45 min. i got her bled shes holding steady now.Thanx again take care all. kazzoo 10-05-2004, 06:47 AM Nice one, that's what this sites all about. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
