G20 vs. JettaKoojo 01-30-2002, 10:18 PM Do you think a 1996 VW Jetta with intake and exhaust could beat a 2000 G20 with intake and exhaust in a drag race? the Jetta is stock 115hp, and 125 torque, but weighs 2657 lbs. Thanks napakapa 01-30-2002, 10:32 PM i serious doubt the 115hp jetta can beat a 2000 G20, stick vs stick, i think g20 still has the advantage frogg 01-30-2002, 11:22 PM Yep, Jetta's are pretty slow unless you get a VR6 Koojo 01-30-2002, 11:26 PM Originally posted by frogg Yep, Jetta's are pretty slow unless you get a VR6 haha ya thats what I thought too. My friend was like, 'im buying a 93 Jetta that has an intake and exhaust, and Im gonna kick your ass with it." I just started laughing. Hes like, "Im gonna put all this money into it and have it be really fast." I laugh at people like that, because 90% of the time they never do put a lot of money into it...I believe it if I see it. frogg 01-30-2002, 11:41 PM Seriously, when I think of "Jetta" I think of show car not race car :D 2002G20Racer 01-30-2002, 11:43 PM My friend had a 95 2.0 Jetta (auto) before he got a 02 G20 Sport (also auto). The G20 Sport is a lot faster then that Jetta could ever hope to be and he had intake, exhaust, chip, and loads of other stuff. Another thing is girls drive 2.0 VW's. My girl friend drives a 2.0 Bettle. No way one of things can smoke a G20. Lolz Koojo 01-30-2002, 11:43 PM I dont think guys should drive jettas. They are kinda for girls, alot of college chicks have them. Maybe its just my thinking Koojo 01-30-2002, 11:45 PM Ya now Ill tell my friend to put all that stuff in his car......and spend the money.......and Ill still whoop his ass, haha frogg 01-30-2002, 11:51 PM My bro has a '99 Jetta.. It's heavier than the earlier models and still only has 115 hp. I seriously feel really lucky to have a 145 hp car :D lol Mike.Com 01-31-2002, 12:02 AM Only 115hp in the lower trims? Whoo that's pretty crappy. The 1.8Tonly has 150. Ewww.... :D Koojo 01-31-2002, 12:04 AM Ya those cars are sketch JustinP10 01-31-2002, 12:57 AM An earlier model VR6 (3rd gen?) is pretty quick, they could easily keep up with a 5-spd G20 in stock form, most likely pull from one. The 4th gen is a little bit heavier, so the G20 would have a little more of an advantage but... the VR6 would probably still pull. They have more torque and hp, and about the same weight, if i'm not mistaken. My mom has the latest gen 2.0L Jetta auto (DOH!) but she likes it, she doesn't care how fast it is, just wants it to look nice (which it does), and it gets real nice gas mileage. The 2.0L are no match for a G20, the G20 will take it in any contest of speed, especially the 5-spd G20s. kenchan 01-31-2002, 01:46 AM i dont know man, a mirage with 120hp MT was able to keep up with my AT pretty darn well. not that it could ever "kickmy ass" but was doing better than I thought it would. talking about getting kicked in the asss, got kicked in the ass by a regal SG or whatever 3.8 V6 240hp. heeheh iwasn't drag racing him, but a silver sedan that was trying to merge infront of me from an intersection. was able to keep the sedan out of the way, but from the other side of my g, shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!! hybridamp 01-31-2002, 04:20 AM G20 v_knot 01-31-2002, 07:43 AM Originally posted by Mike.Com Only 115hp in the lower trims? It corners good too, again not too sure when compare to the G20. In the end, I think the 1.8GT can keep up witht he G20 if there is a good driver behind the wheel. bump909 01-31-2002, 08:53 AM Originally posted by kenchan i dont know man, a mirage with 120hp MT was able to keep up with my AT pretty darn well. not that it could ever "kickmy ass" but was doing better than I thought it would.  i had a mirage with an AT for a rental car one day. i swear that was the slowest POS i've ever driven. my previous car (a '94 escort lx 5-spd) could have whooped it's ass. if a mirage can keep up with your g20 something is seriously wrong. kenchan 01-31-2002, 01:11 PM MT is the key here. napakapa 01-31-2002, 06:55 PM i have an auto too, and i took it against my fren's 1.8L mirage, i think about 11 hp(soemthing like that) stick...we were about dead even...consider than mirage is 500 lbs lighter and he is MT, think the G20 is pretty good already... 00 mirage de Weight: 2437 lbs. 113 hp 116torque 2002G20Racer 01-31-2002, 07:37 PM Im a Audi person and thus I know a lot about VW. The pre 02 1.8T Jetta (man vs man) would be able to hang with a G20 but its going to come down to the drivers on whos going to win. But if its a 02 1.8T or if it has a GIAC or APR chip its prob gonna smoke a G20. Chipped 1.8Ts produce 200hp, so if a VW/Audi owner with a 1.8T says hes got a chip dont race him! Koojo 01-31-2002, 08:40 PM Ya i wont race an vw, its not even worth it....:D "G"-sus! 01-31-2002, 09:24 PM VW's aren't that bad (looks/performance). I would never get one (maybe a Cabriolet - j/k:hehehe: ), most models are pretty girlie and they're way too common! That's the best thing about Infiniti, everyone and their mother doesn't drive one. It seems like even Lexus' and Benz' are common nowadays. So basically, "They all lose in the long run". I raced a brand new Golf (about a month ago, still had the temp plate) w/ a chip and I was able to hang with him pretty easily. Is there a difference after chip with a 180hp Golf, in comparison to the older golfs (150hp?), or does the chip take the advantage away from the 180hp models? (like is the chip the only difference stock?) I've always wondered that. I was going to say.... you don't wanna mess with a modded European car that has a good chip. Some of those damn things give up to 40hp depending on engine and other mods. JustinP10 01-31-2002, 11:13 PM Yeah, there's someone in Phoenix that has a 1.8T golf w/ a garett (sp?) chip. he put something like 182hp and 203ft.lbs to the wheels!!!! that's insane! He wanted to race me, but i know he'd kick my car's ass! Oh yeah.. the JWT chip for a 300zxtt gives is approx 65hp!!! :D Boost is good! Koojo 01-31-2002, 11:25 PM Originally posted by JustinP10 Oh yeah.. the JWT chip for a 300zxtt gives is approx 65hp!!! :D Boost is good! How much? JustinP10 01-31-2002, 11:27 PM money? i think around 650ish? it comes with boost jets too, which raise the boost. I don't know if those are included in that price or not, i'd assume they are, but i truthfully am not sure. kenchan 02-01-2002, 01:15 AM yep, a decent 120hp MT can keep up, so a 150hp MT will smoke our AT asses. but here comes zex and those guys will be scratching their heads.... hummmmmmmmm....? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
