ill just put all my questions in one thread this time

1. what do u do to keep paint off ur hands and if u do get it on ur hands how do u get it off? i got a whole bunch of red paint on my hands yesterday and i couldnt get it off.

2. do u think the fast and the furious kits are any good? i wanna get the supra, eclipse, and civic.

3. is testors brush cleaner bad for ur hands/skin? cuz i got it all over my hands while i was cleaning my brush.

4. is there any other brand of paint besides tamiya that makes clear red and orange?

how in the hell did you get brush cleaner all over your hands?!

1. Go to a target or something and pick up a box of like 100 doctors latex gloves. They are disposable and keep you clean. I occasianally get a little overspray on my arm(past the glove). It comes off in water but it sounds like the paint you got on is pretty thick.

2.Havent built them

3. From my experience it just smells. Never had any hand irritation or anything of the sort.

i wear doctors gloves when i paint

i have built a fast and furious eclipse, not the best kit out there, its decent tho, needs a lot of work to make things fit properly

brush cleaner? i assume its just varosal or tupintine, i use them to clean my hands if i get paint on them lol so i dont think its harmfull, just wash your hands afterwords

#4 - I think Humbrol makes a few clear colors (Red, Orange and Green for sure). They are enamels though...

I dunno about the other stuff but i use only Humbrol paints for brushing and Tamita only for spraying bodies.

Humbrol have just about every colour imaginable.

1. I use the paint cleanner then soap.

2. Compared to tamiya it's a shame, but for 9$, it's fine

3. No it's not.. read on the bottle, just clean

4. Humbrol

4. Not all hobby shops carry all things. Mine does not carry Humbrol at all, and does not carry Tamiya sprays. For my brush paints I just use Tamiya and Testors/Model Masters bottles, because my LHS carries those and between them I'm golden.

1. To get paint of your hands, use shop hand cleaners like Gojo. They come in tubs or pumps, and you can find them at autoparts stores.

2. Buy what you want, you can makes something good even if the kit sucks.

3. Don't do that.

Some thinning/cleaning solutions are so strong they will eat through latex gloves as well as burn your skin away. But model stuff isnt near as chemically hot, so I'd say wash your hands afterwards and you'd be fine. The worst that happens is you get a minor irritation and some dry skin.

The problem might be not with your skin irritation or burn. You know that this stuff absorbed by your skin and in 24 seconds via the blood stream reaches your liver, kidneys, and brain? Do you want brush cleaner in your brain? Liver can fail from even a small amount of this stuff, so be smart, wear gloves all the time when working with chemicals, even acrylic paints.

He as well might... And not only because of danger to his internals.
Skin is the biggest organ in your body, and should be treated as one.

ill just wear latex gloves now.

What's the difference? Its still in the blood!

But anyhow, I think you will be fine, just try not to do it anymore, think of your help while young.

So does that mean I have to stop taking baths in lacquer thinner? D'oh.

ahh common guys. Many ppl use thinner to wash there hand after paint job or mecanical work. Nobody is dead becose of that.

On the 1Gal Enamel Thinner bottle I have, it's writed that you can actually wash your hand with it to remove all the paint residue, then washing your hand with soapy water. Testor thinner IS enamel thinner.

People here got really paranoid lately. You scare newbee

Same thing. they are all Enamel thinner. you just pay 3$ for 50ml while I pay 3$ for 4L (1Galon)

Plus that stuff is stronger than the Brush Cleaner!

Sorry I got a little worried about your health! I'd rather be too over cautious than have liver problems in 25, and brain damage in 50.

i'm sure acrylic paint doesn't get absorbed by your skin. The only problem we have to worry about is the vapors... and if you drink the stuff

Are humbrol paints good to be airbrushed? They seem to, from what I've seen, and they're pretty inexpensive when compared to other paints....

oh, and um

I never used it, but for what I know it's old Enamel. The gloss will look very "plastic toy" shine. This is what the guy at hobby shop told me.. try it !

Personally, I think Humbrol paints are about the best paints I've ever used. I've done quite a bit of air-brushing with their flat colours and they just seem to spray way smoother than anything else I've tried. They are my 'preferred' paint! I thin with lacquer thinner.

I haven't tried any of their 'gloss' colors through an AB yet, but will be trying some in the next few weeks.

Perhaps I'm just screwing up when using other paints (Model Master, Tamiya, etc.), but the results I get with Humbrol are way better.

I did on my SAS 180 SX; Testors enamel paint mixed with some lacquer red thinned with Lacquer thinner. I wouldn't recommend it unless you experiment first though. wkma7six used that same method on hs Hamann 360 Spider

Works wonders with Testors or Model master

Good to know thanks

But 500ml Lacker Thinner cost the same as 4L of Enamel Thinner, so for that I sill stick with enamel. But might be usefull to clean airbrush if I run out of thinner

Yep. Works really well for me. But lacquer thinner gives me a headache, so I wear a respirator. Use it on ModelMaster too. I find that the paint dries a bit quicker.

Not sure the difference would be enough to switch what you're using (and have gallons of), but it is good to know. Lacquer thinner cleans the AB out really well too. Melts just about anything...
