Changing parts under the hood!damasta 07-20-2004, 02:19 AM Soon i'll have some bling bling and I want to get some ideas of how to get some power especially for acceleration. I have everything stock and I want some POWER in my car so it wouldn't be like oh ya its a stupid stock civic. Also if anybody knows how you can make the car like the suspension when you hit a bump or something like that it doesn't like luxery cars bounce up and down for like 4 times and just like be stiff like racing. I dont know how to explain it I hope someone knows what i'm talking about. If you could make it a little cheap not to expensive maybe like $500 Also I saw this chip thingy that you connect to something in the car and it gives you like 15hp and it was on ebay for like $20. Does anybody know if this is true if so will it hurt my car. Please help me join thoe racers. I love my 97 civic hx. Please Help!!! Kafziel 07-20-2004, 10:08 AM Don't buy that "chip". It's not a chip, it's a 5-cent resistor that you stick in your oxygen sensor and cover with electrical tape. A real aftermarket ECU will reprogram your car to rev higher and make VTEC kick in faster, and it costs a lot more than $20. There seems to be a debate about whether upgrading your intake and exhaust actually does anything all by itself. I say it does. New air intake, header, and catback can make a difference, but only above 4,000 or 5,000 RPM. To get more torque (the force you use to start moving in the first place, the low end of the RPMs) that takes working with the clutch and throttle, which I haven't done yet. Anyone? snowman2005 07-20-2004, 10:36 AM if u want low end power get a 4-1 headers. it ill help in ur low and mid range power. as for the chip like he said its shit, most are. all they do is push more fuel into ur engine killing ur gas mileage and most times killing ur engine. about the suspension that would be ur struts(shocks) that are probably blow. get some nice struts and the bouching will go away. best thing do do in ur case for engine is i/h/e. gives u some nice power without killing ur budget all taht much. xproductionz 07-24-2004, 10:18 PM isnt it supposed to be 4-2-1 headers is for low end and and 4-1 is high end Takumi8187 07-25-2004, 01:07 AM I/H/E is a waste on a D17 IMO, you'll get 5 HP at the wheels if you're lucky. Save up for a swap and/or turbo it. xproductionz 07-25-2004, 03:42 PM I/H/E is a waste on a D17 IMO, you'll get 5 HP at the wheels if you're lucky. Nice nice, post up some numbers once you're all done. Ricochet 07-25-2004, 07:09 PM You can't get any power out of your car without an engine swap. Don't even turbo the hx, they just suck so you're screwed. damasta 07-26-2004, 03:31 AM How much is a pretty good engine swap like the price I dont wanna get a 8k engine just enough to beat a vtec and maybe a v6 that my friends have. I have no idea what the engine name is, like b something and also whats the best muffler or exhaust that is very racing and loud and I mean load and where Could I get it. Thanks for the posts. eckoman_pdx 07-26-2004, 03:57 AM Okay, forst off, a 4-1 header tends to give you more top end performance, sometimes at the expensive of the lower end (I have seen dyno's where a 4-1 dips below the stock power wise low but ends up better high). A 4-2-1 header is more for mid and low end, and a good 4-2-1 header won' be drastically below a 4-1 up top, well, not enough to warrent loosing the low end. Now, as for the rest of the thread... damasta, look...I could help you and answer your questions, I really could. Ricochet could too, many of the people in here could. However, there is a reason you don't seem to get much help. You are doing it for all the wrong reasons. You're doing it to be cool, cuz it's the "in thing," not because you're an enthusiast. It's obvious in all your posts. comments like: "what's this smoke from the bumper, it's cool I want it" or "is there a diff between the HX and Si, is it a motor diff or is it just cool to have like vtec or turbo." or "Soon i'll have some bling bling and I want to get some ideas of how to get some power" I mean, all these posts show a few things, especially the way you word them and the word choice you use. A) you really have no clue about anyting. That in itself is okay, we all started somewhere. However, B) you want to do it to "be racey and look cool." That's the wrong reason to do anything, period. Mess with cars cuz you love em, not cuz everyone else does. You want to "join the racers" because it's cool. That's the wrong reason to modify a car. You want some advice? Save your $$ and spend it on something you really love, don't waste it on something just cuz it's "cool" to be a rcaer. If you really end up loving cars, sit down, relax, save your $$ do research, and LEARN about cars. Right now you're wanting to do it for all the wrong reasons, and help can be hard to come by when that's the case. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
