manual hubs for 94 pathfindernichaw 07-19-2004, 07:16 PM I have a 94 PF XE 152K miles. Someone just told me that you can get manual hubs for the front end and save a few on the MPGs. If you know anything about this let me know if your experience proves that it is for real and, if so, where I can get the hubs. I already need to replace the axles (split boots). Second question. How can you get the door pins out? I pounded with a 5 lb hammer and a blunt punch and could not budge them. Trying to fix a sagging door. Third question. My pathfinder sags to the left a bit. Any hints for an easy/cheap fix? lewisnc100 07-20-2004, 12:32 PM I thought the 94 Pathfinders had autohubs, if they do you won't see any MPG benefit. The 96+ Pathfinders came with full time hubs that do see a slight MPG benefit from going to manual hubs, maybe the person was talking about the newer vehicles. nichaw 07-20-2004, 10:35 PM What the mechanic told me is that they are not auto hubs, they are permanently locked to he axles. When you pull the 4X shift back it locks the differential. He told me that you get better mileage with the manuals because you're not turning the axles until you lock in the hubs. lewisnc100 07-21-2004, 08:27 AM Your mechanic is mistaken, 95 and older pathfinders have autohubs which disengage the front driveline when not in 4WD once you backup to disengage the hubs. You will have no MPG benefit from going to manual hubs. The 96 and newer pathfinders have full time driveflanges that permanently lock the front driveline to the wheels. This spins everything from the front wheels back to the transfer case, when you put it in 4WD it sends power to the front driveline via the transfer case, it does not lock the front differential. I've installed Warn Manual hubs on my 97 for this very reason and have seen a slight increase in MPG. But if you are an avid offroader then the switch to manual hubs will give the benefit of not disengaging when locked in any conditions. Check out this link, it's for an Xterra but it has a section on why some go to manual hubs from auto hubs (see the Auto hubs VS. Manual hubs section on the left). http://www.maxc.org/mods/manualhubsHOWTO2.htm nichaw 07-21-2004, 10:54 PM Thanks, Makes sense since he has a 96 pathfinder and I have a 94. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
