Why are Si's better?!!!damasta 07-18-2004, 04:42 AM I have heard that Si or like some other kind of civic is better then just a regular civic for example like a si and a hx. Is there a engine difference or is it just coller to have it like having a turbo or vtec then just having regular engine's. Si's typically have the most powerful engine in the Civic line, at least in America. The Civic Type-R is the top of the Civic line, but has never been released in America, as far as i know. CivicSiRacer 07-18-2004, 05:52 AM Right just like the Type R line in the Acura is the SPORTIEST version. The Si usually gets the nicer stuff, only comes in manual, has better brakes, usually better engine (although the 1992-1995 line the Si and the Ex shared the same engine). The 1999-2000 line the coupe got the 160hp engine, only came in Milano Red, Flamenco black and Electronic Blue Pearl. megaman277 07-20-2004, 09:47 AM besides that si's usually come somewhat fully loaded, like sunroof ac power everything four wheel disc breaks all that good stuff Killa_CRX 07-20-2004, 11:43 AM besides that si's usually come somewhat fully loaded, like sunroof ac power everything four wheel disc breaks all that good stuff On the flip side... the Type-R's come with no radio, no sunroof, and A/C is only an option.... I'm not sure, but I believe the Civic Type-R came without power windows as well. HondaGui4lfe 07-20-2004, 05:49 PM "The Si usually gets the nicer stuff" Not true... The 94 Si hatchbacks don't have power windows or power locks... lol I had to put em on my freinds... And to anwser your quuestion about the motors most Si civic's come with vtec like the d16z6 and other non si models come with stuff like the d15b non vtec peice of poop. HondaGui4lfe 07-20-2004, 05:52 PM Then there is the 99-00 I think it is si's that have the b16a2 :-D if ya are lookin for a bare block i got 1 eckoman_pdx 07-20-2004, 07:03 PM "The Si usually gets the nicer stuff" Not true... This was already covered above when "expect 92-95" was said. The 92-95 Si was more like an EX for a hatch. now... That's not their purpose. Nor is that the purpose of vtec. Turbochargers provide a motor with forced induction. This basically means they force more air induction into a motor, thereby increasing the power. The amout of power gain is dependant on many factors, turbo size, airflow, fuel delivery, injecotr size, tuning, boost level etc. A turbochargers purpose is to increase horsepower, and that's EXACTLY WHAT IT DOES. You don't spend 4 grand to turbocharge you vehilce to be cool, you do it to increase preformance and power. Porsche didn't turbocharge the Carrera Turbo to be cool, they did it for power and performance. Now, as for vtec. Vtec stands for Variable Valve Timing Electronically Controled Lift. This basically means the cam timing and lift charges and there changes are controlled electronically. Now, a vtec cam has 2 cam lobes, versus 1 cam lobe on a non-vtec cam. The 2 lobes on a vtec cam are the high lift and low lift lobe. Now, why not just have one or the other you ask? The reason is simple. Low lift lobes can idel smoothly and produce efficent low rpm power, but they are not able to provide the airflow to sufficently sustain high rpm power. High lift lobes can sustain higher rpm power due to the increased airflow due to the higher lift. However, they tend to idel poorly and produce poor low rpm power, not good for street use. Vtec allows the cam to have the best of both worlds. The low lift cam lobe is used during low rpms. Once the vtec crossover point is reached the car electronically switchs to the high lift lobe. This allows the car to rev to higher rpms and create more power than it would otherwise, while still being able to idel and produde decent low rpm power due to the low lift lobe. Now, why not just turbocharge it? Honda used to be the king of turbos on the race tracks in the 1980's. However, in the mid-late 80's, turbos were banned from the circuts they raced in. They developed vtec as a way to produce more horsepower throughout the power band without redcing the low end. This also allowed them to rev to a higher rpm, which increased power, since horsepower is a product of torque * rpm/5252. The higher the rpm you can achive, the more the power you'll produce from the same motor. Vtec helped them achive this. Basically, neither turbos or vtec where produced to be cool. They were produced to create power, and thats exactly what they achive. MexSiR 07-21-2004, 10:59 AM Thats a good reply man! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
