Hell yes, they should be worried. Now let's hope they can price it under $30,000 :P

I'm WAY more interested in the AWD Turbo Honda Accord that's coming out (Or TSX if you're in the States/Canada)

They're making an AWD Turbo TSX? HOLY SHIT.

Come on Toyota, NOW will you bring the Celica GT-Four? And Nissan, bring the AWD Turbo Altima (Bluebird) over here from Japan :)

looks more like that would compete with the turbo legacy class. i bet its gonna have a little less hp if they come out with the production version.

sad enough, so far that Mazda looks the best out of the current two. if they keep the price around $20K like the SRT-4, which they won't, I'd consider getting one.

so all these rally-inspired AWD turbocharged 4 bangers for the street, is this turning out to be another fad now?

btw, how are Mazdas in terms of reliability? don't Ford own it? has it affected Mazda?

Yes Ford does own it, but they still retain a fair degree of independance, and actualy develop models that are then rebadged, or rebodied and sold as Fords. e.g. the Ford Lazer/(Escort in the US), or the Ford Telstar, or the ford Probe/MX6. And the Yamaha V6 as used in the old Mondeo/Contour is also a developed and tuned Mazda engine.

So don't let any issues with ford get in the way of your opinion of Mazda.

They also have a lot of experiance with AWD and turbo charging, the 323/lazer has had an AWD turbo model avliable since the late 80s.
Altough they have never before built a car that could compete with the EVO and WRX, they have been building succesful works rally cars since the 70s.

An AWD turbo Mazda 6 would make an interesting addition to the model range, it sort of falls somewhere between the Legacy and WRX/Lancer in terms of size, and I imagine its performance would be somewhere between the 3 as well. It would make an excellent gap filler in the market, attacting people of who want the practicality of a Legacy, but are tempted by the performance and image of a WRX or Lancer.

That is of course assuming its real, and it see's production.
The claim that its a "twin-turbocharged and intercooled 2.3-liter four" as stated in the article does make one wonder as to its accuracy.

I wonder if the Focus (which uses Mazda's 2.3) will get a similar car. Or if they'll bring over the Focus RS.

Glad to hear it, because tomorrow I am going to test drive the Tribute, and might consider purchasing as a daily-driving family wagon. So, Mazda by itself, they're as reliable as nissan, toyota, honda, etc?

Fad? AWD Turbocharged 4 bangers have been around a lot longer than a certain FWD Turbocharged 4 banger (SRT-4).

It's a bit on the big side. The Evo and STi probably won't have anything to worry about. Maybe the Legacy GT, though.

The only 2 that I'd say have to worry about it is the 350 z and the infinity v35. The evo wouldwoop that things ass especialy since the evo mr is coming out. The sti would also woop that things ass they say the sti has 300 hp stock but Razor told me it only ran 285 on the dyno so you never know.

Yeah, four door sports cars are cool, but it would be nice to see the return of the Celica GT-Four and/or the Eclipse GSX.

i'd like to see that motor in a mazda 3. they could keep that in the low 20's. or maybe a miata, for around 30. i love the s2000, but it would give it a run for it's money.

S2000 kicks ass compared to the mazda 3. The Mazda 3 is quick though. Speaking of mazda 3 did any1 enter the driver competition for mazda 3 were u race them???

He's comparing the S2000 to the Miata, not the Mazda 3 and he's saying that it would give it a run for its money -if- Mazda put the 276 hp motor in it. You gotta read more carefully :)

Same chassis setup as the miata if you ask me the only thing the miatas good for is handling and so is the mazda 3 so basically there the same in performance terms. How much hp is in the 3. Wow I just rhymed.

The volvo s60 R will beat an evo on the Track I think But might not beat the STI. S60-R 300 hp stock single turbo.

Um no it wouldn't, don't get me wrong the Volvo is a sweet ass car, but it is a bit on the heavy side compared to the EVO, and not nearly as tuned toward track racing as the EVO or STI are.

I wish Honda would make a coupe, non convert version of the S2k, much like Porsche is planning on doing with the Boxster and the Boxster S. I would take that over any sub-$30,000 car. So down with 4 door sports cars (except the M5 and the RS6) and sports cars only sold as converts.

Thats were your wrong ever 1 who has driven it has said it has 1 of the best track tuned suspentions ever.

Like I said it is a bad ass car, but still not on the EVO and STI levels, especially when the MR comes out. Doesn't really matter, because even the base EVO is faster to 60, faster to the 1/4 mile, slaloms higher, higher skidpad numbers, brakes shorter, so I don't really see what you are talking about. Not knocking the Volvo, dope ass car, and it's combination of luxury/performance is much better than the EVO, but just on performance the EVO and STI have it beat.

I agree

The volvo has 3 modes comfort/sport/advanced is the very good from what I hear. It tightens up the suspention alot nice tight steer very good for the track.

We all know the s60 R is in a class of its literally it can destroy a legacy but can quite measure up to a lancer but from the reveiw as far as european it matched up with the new S4 and almost kept up with the M3.

The S60 R is nice and all, but performance-wise, it's not even in the same breath as the Evo and STi, it's way too heavy.

Hehe ok sure it might be heavy but it still has the extra 24 hp over the evo.

It's not always just about HP, besides the EVO is still better in every statistical performance category, enough said. We are getting off topic.
