I'm about to change the fuel filter on my 2003 Passat 4 cyl for the first time. Does anyone know where this is located?

Also, my back brakes wore out after 25,000 miles but my front brakes are still almost brand new (at least 3/4 of the pad left). Does anyone know why this happened and if there is any way to get them to wear more evenly?

I don't know if the 4 cyl. is different from the six cyl. but the parts store I use does not show a fuel filter for an '03 GLX in any of their catalogs. I've not tried the dealer yet but that would be a good place to start for information but not necessarily the best price. As to the rear pads wearing, I got 27K miles out of mine. The only sign that they were gone was an intermittent whine while the car was in motion. The frequency of the whine was high enough that I could not hear it but my wife could. I checked the rear pads while rotating the tires and sure enough they were worn down to almost nothing. Seems that the rear pads on the '93 GLX lasted about the same length of time. The pads are easy to repalce, the piston screws back in CW, and the emergency brake cable does not have to be undone as it did on the '93. If you use a high quality replacement pad you should not have to replace them again for quite some time. The ones on the '93 lasted until 122K miles at which time we traded it in on the '03 GLX.
