Running on a camry spare tire?fadeaway 07-12-2004, 12:45 AM So yeah.. my parents were on a trip and I took the camry out for a little spin with my friend, and through a bunch of misunderstanding and strange circumstances, I ended up going over a curb I was trying to avoid on a swerve in the road at a rather high speed. Lucky enough, a car stopped behind us eearly in the morning, and these two kids helped us change the tire in the trunk. The wheel/tire in the trunk looked like a full size wheel, not a typical "spare", and it does look full size. Can anyone giveme some more information on the camry spare tires? Can it be used as a permanent tire? The camry is a '98 LE. Yeah, I just slapped the scratched up hubcap on, so hey, looks like nothing happened. :sunglasse The wheel sorta got shredded in one area, and the tire punctured, so the old tire is really completely useless. I'm glad nothing bad happened, especially considering I wasn't buckled up and there wasn't a freakin tree or sign right where I swerved off. Definitely a lesson learned. Just need to know if it's safe to drive on the spare tire. Thanks, Dan Brian R. 07-12-2004, 01:12 AM If the tire is full-sized, then it should be identical with the tire you removed. Check and see if both tires are the same brand and model. If they are, you're fine. If they're different, do what you have to to make all 4 tires the same. There is a big difference between a Michelin P195/70R14 and a Cooper P195/70R14. As far as different tires on cars, really, as long as the front ones are the same as each other, and vice versa for the rear, you should be fine. Now, before you parents get home, go to Sears and pay for new tires. Brian R. 07-12-2004, 10:24 AM All four tires should be the same. You will find out what "swapping ends" in the rain means. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
