Blazing Rice 07-15-2004, 05:58 PM Who do you expect your clientel to be? If you open a shop with the word 'Illuzions' or 'Dezigns', I guaruntee you will have many 'ricers' knocking on your door and not people who want good custom work. You need to stack up some high quality work before you open, so that when you do, you'll have a number of your own creations to display. If you were going to do total auto/bike customization (meaning chassis/motor work as well) I would suggest calling yourself the 'Tune Shop'. It wouldn't be hard to create a logo for either. You say you want start off with bodywork, I've got an excellent project for you. 1992 4-door S10 Blazer, needs paint and would make a great shop vehicle. You could demo your skills with it, annd build a bike to match it. 1st gen 4 doors aren't seen too often on the custom world, but if build it, they will come. Would you just do vehicle painting or would you do accident repair as well? Whatever you do, people are going to want to see credentials. SeCrEtMoDdEr 07-15-2004, 07:05 PM if you call it tune shop, people will also think its a ricer store and those will be the clients... most owners of rods are older and tune shop definately doesn't relate to them. He wouldn't want to do up a blazer if he does up rods. i agree with you that designz would attract younger people, but he isn't considering designZ. He isn't considering a gangsta name, noone would, thats frikin stupid... anyways, w/e. Himlar 07-16-2004, 07:54 AM Maybe "Straight Ace Design", and five aces (like in a poker game cheating) as a logo? Sorry for bad spelling and writing, I hope itīs understandable. GTmike400 07-16-2004, 10:25 AM My shops main projected audience will be those that are into show/street rods, especially those that attend the Detroit Autorama and the San Diego Autorama. Before I "completely open" I am hoping to be working, or luckily have completed the build of a '37 Ford Coupe, and enter it for the Riddler award (dont think I will win, but its a good effort to try). After that I plan on building a shop truck, in which the base may be a '37 Ford Coupe as well. Anyway back to the names... Yesterday I was in the shop listening to the radio and all of the sudden Progressive Design pops into my head. So what do you think of: Progressive Design? Progressive Seven Design? (Yes, it has a 7 in it, but I love my logo.) KustmAce 07-17-2004, 01:25 AM The Riddler Award?? HAHA! Good luck man! Anyway, I think your desire to be a Trailer Queen designer is the wrong way to go, but thats just me. Anyway, you narrowed it down yet? GTmike400 07-17-2004, 08:32 AM The Riddler Award?? HAHA! Good luck man! Anyway, I think your desire to be a Trailer Queen designer is the wrong way to go, but thats just me. Anyway, you narrowed it down yet? WTF? Trailer queen designer? What did you think of Progressive Seven Design? HighOctaneNOSUser 07-17-2004, 11:05 AM Trailer Queen Designer As in you design em for all show no go... GTmike400 07-17-2004, 02:17 PM Trailer Queen Designer As in you design em for all show no go... I know what he meant...I said what the fuck because they will have some go. I'll be putting in 502's, 455's, 572's. Im more of a showy guy too. If it doesnt look good, what the hells the point. NOS_racerX 07-17-2004, 04:39 PM ace of spades custom lucky 7 7 lucky customs(have 6 other guys work in your shop) seven spades rods HighOctaneNOSUser 07-17-2004, 04:49 PM I know what he meant...I said what the fuck because they will have some go. I'll be putting in 502's, 455's, 572's. Im more of a showy guy too. If it doesnt look good, what the hells the point. How about 705's? Lol...I know what you mean. I like rods that look great and can be driven. Not trailer queen looks, but more in between Hot rod and trailer queen. Street Rod would prolly fit best I think... GTmike400 07-17-2004, 09:29 PM How about 705's? If it wasnt an $22,000 motor I might...then I have to cram it in a lead sled. burnM 07-18-2004, 03:17 AM Custom Ace Rolling Art 4 Wheel Steel Four Aces Street Faces Drop Top Custom Shop Custom Coach Fabrication Aces Automotive Art Khaotic Kreations Beast Builders Ace Artworks Redline Ride Design Insane Innovations Strange Specialties Just throwin' a few more at you.... Some of those are pretty cool! Four Wheel Steel rolls off the tongue. doucmehu 07-20-2004, 10:19 AM Ace of Spades Design burnM 07-21-2004, 01:32 AM Real Rides Rebuilders Slammed Secrets Customs Past To Present Designs Innovative Invention Twisted Metal Innovation Aces to Kings One Off Rebuilding Rides from Heaven - by Lucky Seven Nostalgic Notchers - World Class from Frame to Glass Player's Innovators (with cards in the background) One Off Frame Off ...... Have Waaaaay too much time on my hands...... I've always wanted to open my own shop too, but I haven't won the lottery yet.... I was thinking of starting with a body shop and then expanding into the aftermarket. BB & King Autobody (because of the names of my partner and I) and then later on, an offshoot called BurnM High Performance. GTmike400 07-21-2004, 11:05 AM Here are some of the names I'm really feeling (I dont think that made any sense): Street Rod Perspective (Cool initials, SRP) Straight Ace Design (SAD initials/had a really hard time coming up with a logo for it) Ace Designs (a few people liked it, and said it sounds clean/elegant) Magic Seven Design (sort of stood out to me) Four Wheel Steel (Has a good ring to it, fits the description, just really stands out to me) Those are just a few of the ones that have stood out to me. I usually replace the word customs with design since it sounds more "elegant" and not something where we are really wild doing stupid things. Personally I feel shops that have the name design in them, are better and stronger than shops with the name customs. Heres what I am going for: A name that sticks out as clean and elegant. (For example when you hear the name Foose Design you think of clean and elegant) Zcaithaca 07-22-2004, 07:41 PM How about: Poopy Cars, and Other Knick-Knacks That would be really cool Integra06 07-23-2004, 10:16 PM How about Project Ace Design? I dream of having my own shop soon too. I'm working my ass off for the money to buy machines, tools, and materials. So, for now it's just a garage operation using a lot of my dad's tools, but it'll all pay off soon. KustmAce 07-25-2004, 12:01 PM I know what he meant...I said what the fuck because they will have some go. I'll be putting in 502's, 455's, 572's. Im more of a showy guy too. If it doesnt look good, what the hells the point. Because a car is meant to be driven, and if you make it too showy too drive, it becomes a trailer queen. :thumbsdow Anyway, I think if you want to start your own business/company, a name should be one of the last things on your mind. You should be more involved with, ya know, setting up a shop, etc. I had been striping for people for months before I got my name. Just a thought... And BTW, waaaay OT, but this is a popular thread so Ill say it here: My AIM sn of KustmAce is dead. My new one is BadAceDesign. So IM me so I can get you in my buddy list. Ok, back on topic! GTmike400 07-25-2004, 12:11 PM I have been doing work for people for nearly two years, I think its time for a name and to start handing out business cards. GTmike400 08-05-2004, 09:28 PM Now I am getting irriatated. I spent about an hour thinking and testing names and all the good ones are registered... GTmike400 08-05-2004, 09:49 PM Not trying to whore my thread, but this is my way to jot down names. SevenFiftyDesign-sounds cool, looks cool. DominantSevenDesign-umm... Transition Design-sounds cool...except I just found out some asshole has it registered. FiftyFive Design-Could make a good logo, sounds cool too... I really like that, I think this might be a winner. BackNineDesign-umm... KustmAce 08-05-2004, 10:57 PM Not trying to whore my thread, but this is my way to jot down names. SevenFiftyDesign-sounds cool, looks cool. DominantSevenDesign-umm... FiftyFive Design? 55 might turn away the <54 and >56 crowds, and 5ifty 5ive would be cooler... BackNineDesign? Are you a golfer or a hot rod builder? Bang Bang Bang! Mike is shot down again... :grinno: btw, what happened to Lucky Seven Contraception? GTmike400 08-06-2004, 08:23 AM SevenFiftyDesign? Is that how much you charge by the hour? $750/hour, yes. :evillol: DominantSevenDesign? I agree. ummm... That one is crap.... Sounds like a sex shop GTmike400 08-06-2004, 08:32 PM Here are some designs I came up extremely quickly. These arent the final but they are the base. http://mike.nwwo.com/FFD1.jpg http://mike.nwwo.com/FFD2.jpg http://mike.nwwo.com/FFD3.jpg Each is slighting different. Strt1189 08-09-2004, 02:25 PM i really like 55 design. The only thing i would see better for the logo is having the 55 look something like it is metal work with more of an hot rodder type design to it, instead of being somewhat plain looking 5's. I hope u get the picture im trying to portray. if not just ask and ill email you a sample. GTmike400 08-09-2004, 05:37 PM I understand what your saying Kyle, but this is going to be embroidered on the back of my shop shirt in black. Strt1189 08-09-2004, 06:21 PM what if you did the 5's like the text you have on the top of the signigture. i have seen that done before on shirts. GTmike400 08-09-2004, 07:00 PM what if you did the 5's like the text you have on the top of the signigture. i have seen that done before on shirts. Too wild, my hot rods are meant to be clean, elegant, and calm. Hot rods with a soft personality. Heres the "final" logo design. http://img34.exs.cx/img34/3764/FFD4.jpg KustmAce 08-09-2004, 09:18 PM Hot rods with a soft personality. That totally defeats the point of a hot rod :shakehead GTmike400 08-09-2004, 09:36 PM That totally defeats the point of a hot rod :shakehead Too damn hard to explain. Hot rods that are clean, elegant, and stand out. I dont want to build piece of shit rat rods or hot rods that stand out because they are all dolled up in chrome and flames. By soft personality I mean, calm. Something that stands out because its not screaming "look at me". Does that make any sense? KustmAce 08-10-2004, 12:26 AM So you wanna build boring cars, is that it? GTmike400 08-10-2004, 03:22 PM So you wanna build boring cars, is that it? Clean cars, not busy cars. I dont want to build shit thats all dolled up in flames, chrome, pinstriping (no offense), and airbrushwork because that basically says "Im covering up shit". Im not making any sense. Flames and chrome detracts from the workmanship. Solid colors and small highlights shows the workman ship... Well, if your afraid that flames will detract from the "workmanship", then: A. Your appealing to the wrong audience in that they will only notice the "workmanship" if there is nothing but the "workmanship" for them to notice. or B. Your "workmanship" is not good enough for people to notice if there is some other visual design ie flames, etc. And, if you think chrome detracts from the "workmanship", well, your really, really aiming at the wrong clientel. I shouldnt need flames to make my car stand out, and if I do, then I failed my personal test. Here I go again with the Chip Foose stuff. Look at Fooses winning hot rods. The grand Master in 2002 and the '34 Coupe, "Stallion", in 2003. Do those have flames? No, they stand out because of the workman ship, the cleanliness, the elegance. And what I mean about chrome is the people that dress up their interior, and engine all in chrome. I like chrome but you have to know when enough is enough. As far as clientel, Im not going for the Mexicans, the ghetto, or Asians, just plain ol' old school show rodders. Nothing against those people at all though, I dont want a hoppin' hydro lowrider, a bling mobile, or a ricer. Am I starting to make sense. Nothing against those people at all though, I dont want a hoppin' hydro lowrider, a bling mobile, or a ricer. But, guys like your hero Chip Foose are NOT old school show rodders, nor are his target clientel. They are guys with more money than brains and buy/look at the cars simply for the name. And Foose is just a guy who has unlimited money that can think of designs, and have people build them for him. He's not a hot rodder. Am I starting to make sense. And nope, still out of it man. There are other employees that work there but that does not mean he doesnt do anything. Zcaithaca 10-18-2004, 07:33 PM Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!
