Questions on Flushing the Coolant (97 Cav 2.2L)Frank G 07-10-2004, 09:59 PM Hello, Since I my coolant was mixed Dexcool & Conventional at a local body shop I cant seem to get it out of my mind. Yes!!! I probably should just complain and let them do it, but I really want to know how to do it myself. First off my Cavalier is a 1997 2.2L. I assume I will need to raise the front end then I drain the fluid in the vehicle by the petcock on the radiator or lower radiator hose(as I do in my Jeep) 2nd) Refill the system with water and a radiator flush (Prestone small yellow bottle) by way of the coolant resivior (doest seem to be a cap on the top of the radiator as other most cars have) 3) Start the car run with heat on for about 10 minutes 4) Drain the system, refill with water allow it to drain out. Close the petcock. 5) Fill the resivour with one bottle of Coolant and the rest water. Does that sound about right??? and I am kinda unsure how much coolant I should add to water for that 50/50 mix. Thanks any tips would be Very Appreciated. You may want to consider replacing the thermostat with a new one since you are going to be working on it anyway. public 07-11-2004, 11:45 PM That's pretty much it. Frank G 07-12-2004, 08:05 AM Thanks, just making sure, I did replace the coolant on my old 86 Cherokee but that had the Prestone kit which worked pretty good. Any ideas about how much coolant to water she will take? GTP Dad 07-12-2004, 07:09 PM The recommended mixture is 50% antifreeze to 50% water. I don't know what your system capacity is but it should be easy to figure out the quantities needed. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
