97 Aspire - idles high when A/C runningbmayer13 07-10-2004, 02:57 PM This car runs great unless I have the A/C on. Every time I slow down considerably or come to a stop I have to shut off the A/C in order to have enough power to get moving again - otherwise it crawls through the intersection. Any ideas? nose-gobblin 10-13-2004, 08:45 PM idles high? how high, and remeber its only a 1.3liter 70 hp engine, if that so its gonna slow it down some takes most of its pwer to run ac Radical 11-02-2004, 05:09 PM Most cars have idle compensation devices to idle up the motor when the a/c, lights, etc are turned on. This should be adjustable. Read your service manual if you have one. Radical bjboertje 03-17-2005, 09:57 AM yeah, they will do that, it is normal mastermech 04-03-2005, 02:57 PM The answers in this post are great places to start. With modern cars, when the A/C is on, the computer, when the car is idling, keeps the idle speed motor open slightly to increase rpm, usually around 300 rpm more at idle. On Ford it called the idle speed air bypass motor located at the thottle body. Make sure the passages are clean (dirt and such can restrict airflow). Also, with acceleration, especially hard ones, the a/c compressor clutch is supposed to be de-energized to allow the engine to get maximum performance, do a code scan and look for error codes. bjboertje 05-18-2005, 10:19 AM and it is 63 hp. BROOZKIE 06-13-2005, 08:35 PM Put a 2" custom cat back w/ turbo muffler on mine...Runs much better & not much $$ at all to have done. Sounds pretty good too....All I need now is a cold air intake for it...anyone know where to get em' ?? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
