EZPass question (for people in the N.E.)

I just received my EZPass transponder after signing up for the service. I want to know if anyone has had trouble with it registering going through the toll lanes having it mounted behind the factory 5" tint strip on the windshield?

If I put it anywhere else, it will be in my field of vision when I'm driving and will stick out like a sore thumb. At least the tint strip sort of hides the hideous white beast.

This has nothing to do with anything! This should have been in the AF compleatly off topic section.

The reason I posted this question here is because I was wondering if anyone (specifically with an eclipse) has had problems with obstruction of RF communication between the transponder and antenna on the EZ Pass system because maybe the tint coating contains metallic elements. I know some cars need a license plate mounted transponder because the windshield itself contains RFI elements.

Does anyone know from first hand experience if the tint strip will cause obstruction?

P.S. How is this a completely off topic thread, since it is a question that pertains specifically to eclipses? It's not like I'm asking a question like "which car is faster" or anything. I mean c'mon there's a thread called "resetting a sony deck? anybody?" and there's one called "Girlfriends!!!". Now THESE have nothing to do with eclipses specifically and are more off topic than my question.

I had no trouble with the fastlane tag in my eclipse. Even when it was on the floor under the seat it worked :D

And I'm not offended in the least by this thread being in this forum, but I'm no Mod :)

My understanding is that EZPass operates off of radio frequencies. If you can receive radio signals fine in your car, I can't imagine that you have any problems with EZPass either.

But to be absolutely sure, metallic or hybrid (metallic and dyed) window film may interfere with GPS, Radio, and other electronics in the car. But if you have just dyed film or ceramic film.. you should have no problems.

If you remember the specific brand and type of window film used in your car, you can look up whether the film is metallic or not at http://www.tintcenter.com. They are a car tint information site (http://www.tintcenter.com).

Great, that's what I was looking for, thanks for the responses. LOL, that's funny, "on the floor under the seat", that's great.

It seems like it may just be dyed film so I think I'm ok.

What is the EZPass anyways? I've never heard of it!

ezpass is used in pennslyvania and new jersey (prolly other places too) so that you dont have to stop at tolls on the highway. You go through the ezpass lane and they record each time you go through and send you a bill at the end of the month. It's great for those who use the turn pike constantly.

I used to rack up 50-70 bucks a month on it because of work. Saves time, and the hassle of digging for money at 75 mph, so its safer too. Mine was automatically charged to my banck acount, or my credit card.

Yes, EZPass is used in Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and West Virginia and I'm sure there are more since it is becoming increasingly popular. I think there are other similar schemes used out west.
