Screw auto, change it to manual?Drumee85 07-06-2004, 02:28 AM Is it possible to change an automatic '01 Rolla to a manual? Do you just have to change the whole transmission? -Bryan Oz 07-06-2004, 07:32 AM No. Trade it. WissNX01 07-07-2004, 04:02 PM Not to be a dick, but it is possible. question is, do you really have the money do do this? Not only would you have to find the manual tranny, but you would have to pay out the nose to get it to work. Best bet is to swap an engine with a 5 speed already on it, then pay out the nose to get it to work. Heres a real idea, do what Oz said, and trade it in for a 5 speed. Youll pay out the nose, but it wont hurt as bad, since youll have a new car and your 5 speed desire. Oz 07-07-2004, 09:51 PM I had a full response to this originally that I lost. It is quite possible, but you have to move the transmission tunnel (usually cut through the firewall again and get it engineer approved), move the brake pedals to fit a clutch in, install a clutch master cylinder etc and then change the ECU. Does that sound like fun? You will likely pay $1500+ just to change transmission to manual. I know - I've helped do it on a JDM Nissan 180SX. Why not sell your car for whatever you get, save up $500 and get the same car or a similar one with a manual tranny already attached? Drumee85 07-07-2004, 11:31 PM Thanks for all the advice guys! I just got this car. I didn't get to pick it out, my mom handed it to me so what could I do? I'll have this one for a bit and then see about trading towards a 5 sp WissNX01 07-10-2004, 04:37 AM Its a sportier Corrola than the previous model years, so you might want to get some aftermarket stuff for it. Lighten it with a C/F hood for 500 bucks or save up for a turbo. YOu can totally be a sleeper and blow some good cars into the dust. Its all about what you want to do. Phreddo 07-29-2004, 08:21 AM "You will likely pay $1500+ just to change transmission to manual" pfft, the 3 speed auto in my '94 prizm has set me back $2300 so far, and it STILL gives me problems. I'm praying a flush-n-filter will solve the issue. I want to find a reputable place to look at my throttle control valve thingie while they have the filter out. hopefully it won't cost much. I'd replace my car, but I'm about to pay it off, and i need to not be making a car payments for a few years. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
