All-rounderMITSU-EVO 07-06-2004, 01:56 AM I've decided to post a grand-comparo to assess the affect of the entry of the Aston DB9 into the market. Here it is.... kman10587 07-06-2004, 03:17 AM I'd take the Z06, mainly because of the price. crayzayjay 07-06-2004, 04:50 AM Kind of a re-post but ill let it slide since the other thread didnt have a vette or viper in it. Anyway, since you're asking for the best all-rounder it simply has to be the 911 Turbo. MITSU-EVO 07-06-2004, 07:58 AM Kind of a re-post but ill let it slide since the other thread didnt have a vette or viper in it. Anyway, since you're asking for the best all-rounder it simply has to be the 911 Turbo. I know, sorry about that, I just wanted to make it slightly broader. Thanks anyway.... My choice would be the DB9 since it's the best combination of sports and luxury! Jimster 07-06-2004, 08:25 AM All rounder has to be the 911 Turbo. Straight line speed, superb brakes, handling, build quality, reliability, luxury and aesthetics. Brilliant. Neutrino 07-06-2004, 09:21 AM Well from a realistical point of view Jimmy and Jay are right. Considering Porsche's tallent for making more of a "practical" sports car, that is a car you could live with everyday. But let put this in women terms: The 911 is the nice college graduate cute girl that is marriage material and you bring back to meet your parrents. However since I'm only 25 now please allow me some some shallow feelings. Therefore; I'll go for the fiery pasionatte sexy and slender redhead followed by the slightly more curvy but equally sexy brunette. Or maybe even both.;) So my choice is 360 Modena followed closelly by the DB9 crayzayjay 07-06-2004, 09:24 AM But let put this in women terms: The 911 is the nice college graduate cute girl that is marriage material and you bring back to meet your parrents. Has a better ring to it :icon16: Jimster 07-06-2004, 09:27 AM Very nice way of putting it :iceslolan Jay and Jimmy, please. Has a better ring to it :icon16: Burn bitch, respect thy elders. Hence my name goes first. Very well put Neutrino, btw. crayzayjay 07-06-2004, 09:55 AM Let's see.. Mod Control.. Reputation... hehehe.. dammit... why can't i delete his rep :grinno: drunken monkey 07-06-2004, 12:21 PM ...hmm, just curious, why does the 911 turbo make a better all rounder compared to the gallardo? well, i ask cos before, the lamborghinis were going to lose out on the practical sides cos well, it isn't (being too stupidly wide and all that) but the gallardo is tiny. parked up next to an elise, it looks almost the same size. hmm, well i guess the 911 is still going to be easier to park. Neutrino 07-06-2004, 12:34 PM ...hmm, just curious, why does the 911 turbo make a better all rounder compared to the gallardo? well, i ask cos before, the lamborghinis were going to lose out on the practical sides cos well, it isn't (being too stupidly wide and all that) but the gallardo is tiny. parked up next to an elise, it looks almost the same size. hmm, well i guess the 911 is still going to be easier to park. Well its not just size. But its the fact that porsche's exotics as the 911 are build extremelly reliable, with cheaper maintenance parts than a lambo or a ferrari, and with somewhat toned down looks. This in a way makes the 911 the corolla or civic of the exotic car world, making it easier to live with it every day while losing only a bit of the "exotic" factor and still retaining all the performance. DinanM3_S2 07-06-2004, 06:20 PM /\ I agree The 911 Turbo is amazing. My most desired car along with the GT2 and the GT3. I just love the German cars. Layla's Keeper 07-06-2004, 06:40 PM I also agree that the 911 Turbo is an amazingly practical and well-behaved sports car. It uses all of the finest automotive developments (PSM stability control, active AWD, finely tuned ABS with massive brakes) to make the car idiot proof and all-weather friendly. And that does everything to diminish the car in my eyes. A true sports car is in NO WAY perfectly user friendly and practical. You want practical, there's a nice Camry or Taurus sitting on the dealer lot for you. Give me knife-edge unpredictability and character anyday. A Porsche like the classic 930 Turbo is a REAL sports car. The new 911 Turbo, feh, a rear engine grand tourer. christophv 07-06-2004, 07:16 PM corvette and ferrari would make me feel I have to compensate sth gallardo is small & second choice, but too extraordinary to be a daily driver the viper is very brutal and sporty, but too prolly for me i'm german, so sorry but porsche bores me :) -> DB9 is perfect timeless design convertible powerful w/o being prolly/pimp not as common as porsche just a "yes I made it" without "look at me/I oWnz yoo" cu 3000ways 07-07-2004, 01:04 AM All the cars are great, and yes I have to agree the Porsche is the best all rounder. Easiest to live with, and can be driven daily, although I would never do that. But if I had my choice of cars, the Lamborghini would be mine, damn that car is sexy and so is the Ferrari. MITSU-EVO 07-08-2004, 09:52 AM What makes the Aston special is the fact that it is rare. On the other hand, the 911 can be seen anywhere and everywhere! kfoote 07-08-2004, 10:32 AM The 911 Turbo and Gallardo are the only ones that would move in the snow, and the 911 Turbo has a lot more luggage space. From a purely practical point (part of all-around preformance), the 911 Turbo wins. szczecinek 07-08-2004, 11:21 AM ferrari for looks, sound (engine), power, litewight, high speed handling and stability, low seating position (which i love, dont know why) ITS A FERRARI, having the car that u dreamed of as a 8 yr old MITSU-EVO 07-08-2004, 03:39 PM ferrari for looks, sound (engine), power, litewight, high speed handling and stability, low seating position (which i love, dont know why) ITS A FERRARI, having the car that u dreamed of as a 8 yr old Ferrari for sound? OK, fair enough but did you get to hear a the Gallardo, the 911 turbo or the Aston???? CrzyMR2T 07-08-2004, 06:15 PM i would have to drive them all to really know, but i would pick the 360 modena. it has the looks, it uses the best type of suspension unlike the porsche, and i think its the lightest one in there. if its the challenge stradel, then i would definately get that over any of those, easily the lightest one. szczecinek 07-09-2004, 03:06 AM Ferrari for sound? OK, fair enough but did you get to hear a the Gallardo, the 911 turbo or the Aston????never said they didnt sound great either... but the ferrari does sound sweet, from idle to redline.... its basically infallable - list all the major faults u know of a ferrari 360 because i cannot think of many. The reason the ferrari didnt do so well in this poll is because it is so cliche, people who dont know shit about cars will always say ferrari, the fact is ferrari's inflated image is harming them, executives with no automotive interest buy them to look good, and that way most ferrari's never see over 60mph... sad isnt it. Another thing is where i live there is a popular racing class called Nations Cup, which has cars like Porsches, Ferraris, 7 litre pontiac GTOs known as monaro 427's and lambo diablo's. The ferrari was the Lambos only competition, often beating it even though it lacked majorly in straight line speed... that was a ferrari 365 i think, which has been replaced by the 575m (in the series, not the ferrari line up), which is even faster. btw the lambo was a diablo SVR. so im not just some idiot saying ferrari for the sake of ferrari but i know what im talking about. :evillol: here are the cars that run in Nation's Cup: Nations Cup Car List GT Class MERCEDES CLK 55, Coupe MOSLER MT900R, SAAB 9-3 VECTOR, TVR CHIMAERA GT Trophy Class BMW HARTGE Z3 E36 ROADSTER, CHEVROLET C5 CORVETTE, FERRARI 355 CHALLENGE, FERRARI 360 CHALLENGE, FORD MUSTANG COBRA RA, HOLDEN MONARO VX 427, LAMBORGHINI DIABLO SVR, LOTUS ESPIRIT SPORT 350 TT, MASERATI GHIBLI GT CUP, MASERATI TROFEO, NISSAN SKYLINE R33 GTR, NISSAN SKYLINE R34, PORSCHE GT3 911 CLUBSPORT, TOYOTA SUPRA RZ, crayzayjay 07-09-2004, 04:11 AM What makes the Aston special is the fact that it is rare. On the other hand, the 911 can be seen anywhere and everywhere! The DB9 was tested by evo magazine against the 996 Turbo, Continental GT and SL55AMG, and quite frankly got a bit of a slating coming equal last with the Bentley. Seems the DB9 may not be quite as sharp as most of us had thought. crayzayjay 07-09-2004, 04:31 AM Ferrari for sound? OK, fair enough but did you get to hear a the Gallardo, the 911 turbo or the Aston???? 911 Turbo doesnt sound very special. The Aston i havent heard but if its anything like the Vanquish then it will be pretty special :D MITSU-EVO 07-10-2004, 06:02 PM The DB9 was tested by evo magazine against the 996 Turbo, Continental GT and SL55AMG, and quite frankly got a bit of a slating coming equal last with the Bentley. Seems the DB9 may not be quite as sharp as most of us had thought. Yea but it's only one magazine, I honestly I have read many reviews which could not find superlatives to describe the DB9. Still I'm not saying it's wrong, it mighgt very well be right but I believe it's a bit unfair to judge a car through "just one" review. Don't you agree? MITSU-EVO 07-10-2004, 06:05 PM [QUOTE=szczecinek]that was a ferrari 365 i think, which has been replaced by the 575m (in the series, not the ferrari line up), which is even faster.QUOTE] Just a minor correction, the 575M had replaced the 550 Maranello ;) drunken monkey 07-11-2004, 02:36 PM y'know, i think if i had a choice, i wouldn't buy a new ferrari. i'm somewhat more partial to the cars of old, in particular, the 288gto, 365 gt4/bb and 246 gts dino. something about the new cars that, i don't know, seem too 'normal'. the old cars were more 'special' to me.... for that reason alone, i wouldn't 'pick' the 360. i would say, from the list, ony the two 4wd ones stand out. but neither of them are 'special' in the way that i'm talking about. whereas, the db9 is 'special'. ack! sod it, i'll get myself a second-hand xkr and save myself £80,000! I have to go with the porsche because it is such a beautiful car with great handling and punch vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
