When I first start my 2000 taurus FFV The idle is too high then it will drop and rise again a few times before it warms up. I am also experiencing a miss in the motor at start up. The miss will stop once the car warms up. I am not getting any codes from the computer. Can anybody please help me with this problem.

No help, but my '02 w/Vulcan engine stumbles from a cold startup, similar to what you describe. When it is hot it starts smooth and quiet, I've never looked into it.

Check the idle air solenoid , it could be sticking or getting a bogus signal from the computer due to some other problem.

Got a 99 duratec with 125,000 miles.

Start having this problem, im broke most of the time but it didnt really bother me.

Trying to merge with traffic so I used the duratec for what its used for.
Lotta power, ended up imploding a vacume line.

My problem is what you guys are describing happens to be a carbon build up problem, it gets into the vacum lines and starts cutting off the air flow through the system thus the idle going up and down, its like your car is having an asma attack.

Im currently fixing my problem. have to take off the erg sensor and clean it out weekly. cost .80 everytime i do it cuz you have to replace the gasket everytime you take off the sensor. wasted 200 at firestone the first time but they showed me the problem.

when you look at it, it look like compounded charcoal ( thats what it is, carbon) due to cheap gas for the last 100k i've had the car.
