240sx interior replacement/skyline engine with a/c/powered sunroof add-ondjloekee27 06-30-2004, 01:02 AM i have a 1990 240sx but the interior is in bad shape. i was thinking about relpacing all of the carpeting on the floor and roof and replacing the cloth on the seats. i was also planning on replacing all of the plastic paneling or repainting them (some of them are cracked or broken and need to be replaced anyway) since it is faded. i also plan on adding power locks, windows, mirrors, and a/c. where could i find the parts that i need and how much money would i need to save to accomplish this. or would it be cheaper just to sell the car and just buy another 240sx in better shape and fully loaded. if it is cheaper to sell it and start over, can i install a rb25det or rb26dett and still add a/c to the car? the transmission is bad and i would have to do an engine swap anyways. how much could i sell an skyline powered 240sx for or is it better just to swap in a sr20det? edit: i have a 1990 240sx hatchback without a sunroof. i was wondering if the powered sunroof from a 95-98 240sx is interchangeable with the pop-up sunroof of the 89-94 240sx (with some alterations of course). if it is not, could i still somehow fit the 95-98 powered sunroof in my 240sx since it doesn't currently have a sunroof and if i did would it be prone to leaks whenever it rains. metal240 06-30-2004, 01:19 AM adding all those "power" options will cost nicely unless you salvage from the junkyard and do everything yourself. Most sr20's run about 1-2g, if you install it yourself great, otherwise expect 600 cheapest labor if you got friends..i paid 800 just for a timing chain replacement :-( And if your trans is bad, just rebuild it for about 3-400 bucks.. dont need an entire engine swap. the KA lives long and hard! btw - just curious, how much did u buy ur 240 for? SHO411 06-30-2004, 08:28 AM Adding all these options is hard, trust me, I am installed a whole new harness into my S14, I am talking of the entire engine, door controls, lights, accesory wiring harness. Getting it out was a bitch, putting it back was seven times the bitch. You are better off buying a fully loaded 240, or alternatively, go to a junkyard and buy the whole door from a fully loaded 240, it will cost but trust me, if you have no mechanical experience, you will not be able to add power anything. It ain't as easy as you think. Seats hell I can sell you mine, I want buckets, interior, easy to replace. Now why would you spend money installing an Rb if you just going to sell it????? djloekee27 06-30-2004, 11:31 AM i bought it for $1200, plus $800 to have it shipped from florida to texas. i can buy an rb front clip for $4500, but the s15 front clip runs at least $6500, and i believe that the s14 is in the same price range or higher than the rb, so i might as well get my money's worth. but it is 2 hot in tx for no a/c and everybody tells me i can't have an rb and a/c, so i was thinking about trying to break even or make money and start over w/ another 240sx. musicsurfman 06-30-2004, 12:23 PM I Have A Rb In Az With No A/c..... Its Not That Hot. musicsurfman 06-30-2004, 12:24 PM Ohh I Also Have To Run The Heater To Keep The Car Cool Sometimes. mynismo 06-30-2004, 01:05 PM wayyyyy too much to convert it to power windows power locks. sell the car and start over. that's what i did and i don't regret it one bit. take a loss and continue with your project. and don't try to add in a sunroof. it will always rust on top and never look stock. and the interior headlining would need to be modified. it would NEVER look right. just buy a car with sunroof and power windows power locks. if there are none for sale around you, keep looking. don't settle. djloekee27 06-30-2004, 09:54 PM just buy a car with sunroof and power windows power locks. if there are none for sale around you, keep looking. don't settle. ok, if i get a 89-94 fastback w/ a flip-up sunroof, can i swap in a 95-98 power sunroof? would it fit, leak? logik23 06-30-2004, 10:47 PM Get the S13 coupe, they have a real sunroof. SHO411 06-30-2004, 11:01 PM Do what I did, my SHO didn't have AC in Ga, it was always 90deg, so I used the wind 60 rule. Keep the car above sixty and the windows down. It worked pretty well untill my insurance rate went up and I got my DL suspended. turns out you are supposed to slow down even more when the lights are flashing. mynismo 07-01-2004, 09:39 AM Get the S13 coupe, they have a real sunroof. i second that, if you want a power roof. there's no way to do it successfully onto a hatch... so just buy a coupe or s14. every time you swap sunroofs out its going to not look right and WILL leak... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
