Hey, I have an '89 CRX Si and my night visibility blows.
I have 9005 (65 watt, 1700 lumen) krypton BriteLites as my low beam and night vision is still subpar. Would getting a projector-style light enhance it at all? I found some for about $150 after shipping with the "halo angel eye" effect and everything:
My current passenger side light is slightly blackened inside and the outside glass on both sides is slightly marked up.

I too would like to get a nice set of projectors, but I'm yet to find a kind that I like. I mean that ones you found are ok, but they just have too much chrome. Anyone know if you can paint the chrome black on them without decreasing the brightness of them?

They have the same projector with a black housing:

i had projecters on my 89 civic and they SUCKED! bad
i could not see but about 100 ft in front of me, high beams were nice and bright though, i wouldnt get them but thats my opinion.

maybe the reflective material on the inside of your headlights is nackered i know all the GM's suffer from that over here, its worth checking, they will look slightly dark and if u look closely u can see black inside

I don't get it... I used to have an 89 CRX, and I always LOVED my headlights cause they were so bright.... and my 91's headlights were really frickin' bright too... I have the non-halo projectors now... I haven't yet seen how bright they are or aren't...
If you want a set of those chrome halo projectors though, I have a set of them with CRX headlight brackets on them, that can be yours for $60 shipped.... only ever been out of the box once when I looked at them, when they were first shipped. (I'd ordered the regular projectors, but the company sent me the angel eyes by mistake...)
PM me if you're interested.

Yeah, my passenger side headlight is blackened inside, and both sides have cracks through the entire reflector.

Does anyone else have any experience with projectors?

mine are brighter than stock, everyone thinks im rollin with highbeams on.
cant wait till i get hid's in them badboys!

i have the older projectors:
they suck. i feel like the highbeams are barely good enough to be low's. i don't like driving my car at night at all :thumbsdow

mine are the new kind btw....
06-30-2004, 04:09 PM
they look good during the day, and i got alto of compliments but they suck at night, and im not risking my vision at night so im keeping my stock lights

It all depends on the quality of the light. Most of those cheep ebay ones are just that, cheep ebay knock offs. I currently have stock ones but I'm buying projectors soon (black housing, non ebay). I'm doing a 9005 conversion and finally getting around to installing the driving lights into my front bumper (driving lights not fog)

my projector bulbs are H1's....

I have experience with projectors. I have Sonar Black housing projectors with angel eye. They are bright IF u get good bulbs(opti-blue H1 bulbs, going to get the PIAA 7500k spark blue soon), and my high beams alow way head light apposed to stock high beam, the projector part simply alows u to have a more directed view of the road. I think they are worth it. Also, I dont think u can paint real crome, however the housing does not have any effect on reflection to the road. Here is where I got my headlamps: http://www.autodynamic.com/transfer/products/headlamp_assemblies.asp
I think black housing looks nicer anyways. :)

How about pojectors & HID ...
Another pic in the day with the old d15b2.... I know I need some new ones but I just have to download them in....
06-30-2004, 09:36 PM
how far can you see with the low beams only?
06-30-2004, 10:03 PM
Probably twice as far as b4... When it rains it really sucks though.. Reflects off the road. I have a 7000k kid so I'm sure the 4500k is much brighter....

Seems like a hit or miss...Finding a new OEM headlight instead of a projector sounds like a better option.
Thanks for the info and experience, guys!

yea i too was thinking about getting projector headlights, mostly for the look...
but i'll probably just get better bulbs for my stock headlights (and clean the water drops out of the housing)
But before i do that, i need to reaim my headlights - the housing on the right side wiggles some and the left side housing aims right at peoples eyes..lol. Getting that fixed today hopefully.

I've had and know people who have projector headlights. Light oput vs OEM sucks plain and simple.. HID + projectors is pretty cool but also illegal in some areas..like in my state :(

I have a connection for some dual projectors. I've never seen them on a civic/crx, but if they are anything like my friends 96 hatch who has the same brand they are bright as hell. Both lows and hi's are H1 bulbs - he gets flashed all the time on his lows. Contact me for more info.
08-04-2004, 01:34 AM
yup they are bright but the problem with visability is they don't shine very far with the puny h1 halo bulbs in them. just really bright for a really short distance in front of the car. :(
08-04-2004, 01:39 AM
I would take his H1 bulbs behind a big ass magnifying lens over my stock bulbs anyday. Shan 40 feet in front of the far and you cant see anything, just a bright light.

a h4 hid kit would be nice and bright (=
i just happen to have one in my closet

I bought those all chrome ones off ebay, made by Sonar. I am going today to the shop to get them adjusted which i hope is the problem. You can adjust cause the screw is next to the frame. I drove in front of my car and i am blinded. Every time the car hit a bump in the road it looked like it was flashing it's lights at me. The chrome reflection also throws light about 5 feet higher than my Eclipse's roof. They are bright and the highbeams even brighter. I hope it is the adjustement because i dont know what else to do but put in a low watt kmart bulb, cover the lense with tint material, or somehow get inside and cover up the chrome right under the low beam. I wish when you buy on ebay they would tell you the maker of the item so you can research it. If i knew now, i wouldn't have bought them.
The halo looks good and the shop wired a switch so i can turn it on and off, which in NJ is a good thing, cops dont like any extra lights on cars.

sounds like you are trading close in brightness for distance on these things. Too bad they look so good and work so poorly.
08-18-2007, 10:16 AM
ive been tinting my projectors that i got from sonar years ago..but im not gonna mess with them anymore..the passenger side halo never worked when i got it and now its cracked in several places..only noticeable up close but enough to piss me off lol they do make the 4th gens look mean tho..itll be weird if/when i switch back to stock headlights
