89 Dakota quits runningbretp 06-28-2004, 07:57 PM My truck just quits running. Sometimes it will run for a couple of days without shutting down, other times it will shut down within minutes. Sometimes it will start again on first try, other times it will take 20 tries to get it to start. There is no kind of pattern to it. I have put in new fuel filter, ASD relay, points, plugs, wires, distibutor cap, and new oilsending unit. I'm starting to think fuel pump but I thought it would die all at once. Could it be working sporadically to create this problem? Just went on allpar.com and found someone with exact same problem. Sounds like the distributor itself. Any feedback? nightdriver09 06-29-2004, 12:35 AM It sounds like you missed the most important piece. The Hall-effect plate inside the distributor. I had 2 89's and the fuel pump on those did go out with no warning. This sounds just like what happened to me in July 1995. BleedDodge 06-29-2004, 01:58 AM That would be it. bretp 06-29-2004, 06:29 AM I believe thats the problem. This is a good sight just stumbled onto it. Thanks for the info. BleedDodge 06-29-2004, 05:02 PM Might also be the crank trigger. I saw on a similar thread, a guy had a similar problem, and he put in a new crank trigger and he's been trouble free for weeks. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
