I bought a 1995 dodge dakota 4x4 with a manual trans. Ive had it for about a month and have been driving it to school, then work, then back home again almost everyday since i got it. it has almost 140000 miles on it but is in great shape. the other day, i shifted into first and took off, i shifted through the gears and i heard a noise that sounded like a flag flapping in the wind, or like gears moving and clicking against eachother as if one gear shifted a little and the teeth didnt quite match up to the teeth on the other gear. the noise will go faster and slow down with the speed. im thinking the throwout bearing, but ive never heard a bad throwout bearing before so im not sure. the sound seems to come from right below me while im driving. if anyone knows shat could be wrong, i would really like to know. thanks.

Yeah, it must be one of the bearings. Have it looked at and be sure. These are good transmissions.

If the throwout bearing is "clicking", you should be able to feel the "clicking" in the pedal. If there's no evidence there, then make sure it's not something caught in the belhousing , or your starter drive gear is bouncing on the flewheel or something.

i definetly can feel the click in the pedal and i can also feel it in the shifter.

The Throwout bearing is bad, or a spring in your pressure plate is broken.

same problm, new info: i had one of my buddies who is familiar with transmissions/clutches and he agreed it was probably the throwout bearing but was confused on the fact when i pushed in the clutch the noise continued to annoy us. think that is normal??

i heard from another friend that my u-joints could be bad. i hope its that much more than the throwout bearing!

The bearing can still make noise when pushed in. the Throwout bearing face can be damaged, rather than the "Bearing" and cause your clicking noise.

If you are stopped, and the clicking is still happeneing at a faster rate than the drive shaft could be (won't!) spining, then it can't be the drive shafts or axle bearings causing the bulk of the noise, not that they won't contribute some noise, clunking chattering etc, but noe as just a "clicking". Save that for the import half-shafts!

my transfer case blew up doing 75 down the freeway. so when that gets fixed i hope i wont have any more noises
