1986 BMW 528e 5sp, 266K, I have a quirk. I just replaced the starter. The solenoid has two terminals for the ignition lead. When I plug the ignition lead into the top terminal of the solenoid the starter won't turn over. I can hear the fuel pump whine and hear fuel flow when I turn the ignition to start. When I plug the lead into the bottom terminal on the solenoid the starter will turn over but the fuel pumps are silent, and the engine will not start.
Question: is there a relay or circuit that connects the solenoid to the fuel pump? What is the logic behind this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-Scott
