Hey, i just recently bought my first car, its a 92 3000gt SL and i love her. Its been my dream car ever since i started my obsession with cars, i finally found a good one that turned out belonging to a friend of mine. The vehicle has 140k rebuilt on it. He took good care of it, engine is clean, and the interior/exterior is clean. The only real problem is the burning of oil, not alot, but enough to notice. Any cheap suggestions that i can do about this? I'm also looking for some performance upgrades, so far i havent had a whole lot of luck finding too much stuff for the 3gt. I want to start with the intake, if anybody has good sites for intake please let me know, thx

ive already brought it to the mechanic for a check uo before buying, he said it shouldnt be a problem, its a small amoutn of burning. all i have to do is watch the oil level and add oil as it gets low, which is about every 3-4 weeks, not bad

How does one tell if their car is burning oil? I have heard that you can jsut swab inside the tailpipe but there must be a better more accurate way (other than watching the oil level and keeping a log).

burning of oil is not good at so whatever mecanic told u it should be good is a dumbass and is obviously not ASE certified. 3-4 weeks and putting in more oil, thats expensive and 3000GTs are cheap as they are.

and your valve guides might be worn, it is a semi-common problem for higher mileage 3kgts...it can run 800-1000 if you have a mechanic do it...if I remember correctly.

if its not burning a lot its not that serious, if its just a little, its exactly what igovert500 said the vlave guides are a little worn, nothing to worry about right now, eventualy in the future it will need to be fixed.
