Hi, I'm new here, but looked around a little and this forum seems to be really helpful. So maybe ya'll can help me...
I have a 95 Yukon (2dr. 5.7L) with electrical trouble. About a week ago my voltage gauge started fluctuating. Sitting still, driving, smooth road, bumpy road, doesn't matter just fluctuates randomly. Last Saturday the Alternator finally died. Got a new one, and a Optima yellow top, and a timing belt while i was at it...
Long story short it STILL FLUCTUATES.... died on the way home tonight. Luckily i was already on my street. Went back 5 min later and it cranked right up... I've taken all the aux lights, amps, toys, etc. off. Just alternator and BATT. Still fluctuating. ANY help would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks Again

I would check all negative wires between the engine and chassis.

I cleaned the neg batt cable with wire brush and the contact spot on the engine... Still fluctuates. I also had the starter checked and cleaned all of those terminals...
I'll see if I can find anymore neg wires.
Thanks

STILL FLUCTUATING
so far .... batt, alternator, belt, and neg batt cable are all new... starter was tested...all fuses seem to be fine(none are blown)...
I've taken it to two diffrent shops, neither of which know, but will gladly look at it... So before I shell out some more $$$ anyone got any other ideas?
Thanks

check your voltage with a hand held voltage meter. if it doesn't do it you may have a problem in your gauge.

Well, I guess it could be a computer problem... that's about the only thing I haven't done....
I've also noticed that it's starting to ride a little rough, like it needs a tune up. I just had one not 3 months ago!!! The guy said that almost all the spark plugs were fouled...
If this is the case again... What could be causing that and would that contribute to my gauge fluctuations?
Sometimes it acts like it isn't getting enough fuel or something .... it "sputters" so i let off and then hit the pedal again and it's fine.... Some days it won't do this ... other days it does it every 10 min ... Any thoughts??? Fuel pump / filter maybe ??

i ended up replacing my alternator, and it kept up. Then i found a broken ground strap from the firewall to the block, so i replaced it, still kept up. Then i ended up replacing my starter because it started to grind, and then it would just click one time and nothing, still kept up. Finally i put a new battery in it and haven't had problems since. I am suspecting that my alternator went first and fried everything else along the way.
Good luck!!!
Good luck!!!

Update:
It turns out I had a bad ground, replaced the wire and the voltage has been fine since.
Still having the sputter problem though, hopefully something will be found next week.
