....... Ok look, I just raced a modded V6 6speed Tiburon and I lost by like 2 cars. From the launch, I pulled til his front bumper was at my front door and then from about 3rd and on, he just kept pulling and eventually left me. Now, was this suppose to happen or am I just the shittiest driver ever.
My GSX is bone stock 5speed (only had it for a month)
His tiburon had a racing chip, injen exhaust, straight pipe, Cold air intake, headers, lightened 16' wheels (he said about 10-15 pounds each), carbon fiber hood. and that's all I think he said.
Should he have beat me?

go and race him again. i would also say that you are quite inexperienced driving a GSX and that may have something to do with it.
it takes a big man to admit he got beat.
it takes an even bigger man to ask what he can do so it will never happen again ;)

we raced twice, and the second time was closer than the first but still got walked...... I know I could have done better but damn, not that much though. I mean gosh, my girl has a v6 6spped stock tib and I can take her, I've taken mustang gt's(pre 99), celica gts's, preludes, spec v's stock tiburons, and many more at the races. But not him!!!:banghead: Were those mods just that good.

Seems like his ride had more hp than yours...and was also lighter. You need a few mods to boost your hp up closer to 250 and you will have no problems. Do you have a boost gauge? You may not be boosting as high as you should be, due to a leak, bad turbo, etc. I only boost around 10-11 psi on stock boost control solenoid, bov, and no mbc. With that extra 6 psi up to 16-17 you could probably hang with him no problem.
Also, I have been having a bitch of a time learning to launch the awd. You should pull ahead of him by more than half a car on the launch, unless he is a ridiculous driver IMHO.

I know with mods it will be no prob but damn, it hurt my pride.... Anywayz, how would I know if I have a boost leak or bad turbo or anything like that? BTW I got a warrenty on the car so if I need anything then I should be fine getting it fixed

get a boost gauge... then tell us waht the boost says...

An aftermarket boost gauge can be picked up for like $30 on dsmtrader.com or dsmtuner.com, used. Installing it is not a big deal, and you will certainly need it to make sure your car is running well. If you install the gauge to discover that you are only getting 6 psi or something, you'll know you have a boost leak. You can then use a leak tester to discover where it is (see the vfaq.com leak tester tutorial!). Fix the leak, get filter, bov, and a manual boost controller, and bam you're up to 17 psi :naughty:

Boost leaks are HUGE on stock turbo cars, and every car I have ever tested had some. Even cars that ran fine and pulled nicely. 2-3 small leaks cost me a half second in the quarter, which is of course a massive difference in performance. Not until I built the tester and fixed those leaks did I get the power back. With an exhaust and filter, and no boost leaks, the car ran 14.3s all day. No other mods. I cant see a tiburon (being wrong wheel drive especially) running that quick with the basic mods listed. You'll get there, dont worry. Just keep in mind that on the stock turbo its the little things that all add up to making the most of what you have.

Sounds like you need to learn how to launch an AWD, you should walk him by several car lengths off the line. The turbo needs to be lit or you'll bog, hold the rpms to 5500 or so, ease off the clutch, don't slip it too much or you'll smoke the clutch and don't pop it or you'll break stuff.

tiburons are slow. stock, they run 7 sec 0-60. they are 2.7l v6 delta engien running 181 hp. with those mods he might have been in the 240hp. it makes sence they he beat you on the long run, but you had him from the line. the toqure is actually kinda good in the tibs. at least the gt's. i would say, with an intake, boost controler, and boost gauge you would win!
ps. did you know that tiburon means "shark" is spanish..

Just get him to put some more mods on his car and you will be able to beat him, around 250hp the v-6 tibs oil pan falls off.

IMO, you must be a shitty driver, I beat a friends tiburon (exhaust, cold air, cams) with another friends eclipse gs by one car no problem. 3 times in a row.
You have an AWD and turbo, I don't see what the problem is besides probably your driving. :D and if you suck at shifting, get an auto!

So your telling me your friends eclipse gs (140 hp) beat a modded V6 6speed Tiburon (180 stock hp) that was modded for even more hp (probably around 200-210). Either your friends got some wild mods or someone's not being totally honest.

I believe the tiburon I was refering to was of an older kind (97?), but still, you have boost and AWD! I don't understand how you lost, your car has 210hp stock, with his mods I would say he has about the same if not less and you didn't loose by an inch, you lost by 2 cars that's a lot to loose by. You should waste him right from the launch, the AWD has power.

the older tiburons before 2002 had 2.0L beta 130 hp crappy engien. they now come stock with a 2.0L C-Vtec 138hp or in the GT version, a Delta 2.7L 174hp. i drive them all the time because i've sold them for the last couple years. their just not faster then my 96 stock gsx. The exhaust systems on the tiburons look like their dual, but there not! there restricted and have 3 cats before the y pipe. adding an exhaust, and getting rid of all that restriction has given more then 2 people off the top of my head 15-20 horsepower. the CIA, same story, hyundai didnt build the car with performance in mind. even though it is a sports car, their not fast stock. Hyundai is working on a new part line called HARD parts. it stands for Hyundai advanced racing development. its the same thing as toyota's TRD. hyundai owners will beable to buy Turbo systems, Supercharger systems, CIA, Exhaust, Coilovers, bodykits exc, for their Tib's starting from 99 - 04 from their parts department, and NOT VOID THE WARRENTY. kick ass hu..
so a base model tibby, with a turbo system, exhaust, intake, bodykit, and suspention form HARD will cost less then a toyta celica GT stock, and wipe the street Tons cars out today, and still have the protection of the 10 year 100,000 mile warrenty. so get use to the idea of loosing to a hyundai.
thats what i call a step in the right dirrection for hyundai!!

Thank you!!!!!! All these damn people Insulting me. I know how restrictive the exhuast and intake in those are. My girl has one and just like you said, 3 cats. So with 15-20 hp from exhaust and 15-20 from intake then plus all the other mods, and it being a 6speed instead of auto. He should have beat me. He had more hp and less wieght. Now Like I said, my girl has one and we race all the time. And we're both stock and I take her all the time. (and she's 6 speed V6 too, and she doesn't drive half bad, she takes preludes and spec v's and has also taken a couple rsx-s's). So all the gs's that think they can beat the V6 6 speeds, please look at my previous post with both 1/4 mile times (from motor trend btw) and stop with the lies.

If you didn't read Savior, it was a 97 tiburon I was abiding to. I thought that they were the same but I guess not, the 97 is very shitty compared to the 02+. scottsee, just because its a hyundai, doesn't mean anything.
It doesn't matter if its a hyundai, it beat his car. Props to the tiburon guy, you just need to start working on the mods and set your goals. You will eventually beat him. The GSX has a lot of potential. Good luck.

daewoo, kia, and hyundai were the only south korean automotive companys being imported to America. kia went through banrupsy in 1998, and the south korean goverment pushed hyundai into picking the company off the floor. in july of 2000, they built a new engenering facility in califorina to design new engiens and test future vehicals. at the same time Hyundai extended their ground breaking Warrenty 10year 100,000 mile powertrain to Kia.
Speed channel uses the track alot, you'll notice them talking about it often. Daewoo was picked up in 1998 or 99 by GMC when they went into backrupsy and were taken away from the american automotive line up becasue they were cutting into to much of their lower end GM produsts market. there is still a lawsute standing between 100 daewoo dealerships and GM for the way they pulled the production rights, and avilability. Any dealership who pulled their daewoo signs down automaticly voilded their lawsuit rights. The dawoo vehicals were sold to Suzuki and were produced in january of 2005 under the name forenza, & verona.
Hyundai was first sold in america in 1986 and broke the american all time sales record for a newly inreduced car selling 100,000 their first year of sales. hyundai is the worlds largest ship building comapany, and 3rd world largest computer chip manufacture, they designed their automotive line as a tax write-off. thats the story with hyundai. 2003-2004 they gained the ranks with Honda on Intual quality from JD Powers as reliability, and as of may 2004 are ranked the 7th best car in initual quality in america with 102 problems per 100 cars.

hyundai sell more then 400,000 vehicals in america and is ranked #4 in foregin vehicals sold in america, behind Honda, toyota, nissan.
hyundai is building a manufacturing facility in Alabama to produce more then 500,00 a year at full production, it will be up and running january 2005.

this is one of the most pointless threads i have ever seen. i can beat tiburons all day. especialy the raced out ones. they suck. so do kia's. they suck too.
and god help the world if:
dimelerchrystler owns 10.5% of hyundai coperation. they plan on interducing the hyundai engiens into the mitsu, dodge, jeep, and mercedes smart car in 2005-2006
i will literaly shit myself if Mercedes puts a Hyundai engine in one of it's cars. Dodge and Jeep can suck my left and right nuts, respectively. Mitsubishi, although they have many companies with fun-to-say Japanese addresses, is getting kicked the fuck out of the US in a couple years, if not sooner [but you better bow down to the EVO 8!].
i can't believe i gave this thread that much thought. it sucks that much.
and even if you do build a 'sleeper' Sonota with a 500hp 4g63: WAKE UP LOSER, YOU ARE DRIVING A HYUNDAI!
