I was wondering on an '03 GT with a stock flywheel and driveshaft how much weight could i save by switching to aluminum and also what kind of performance gains can i expect to notice. Also, is there anything else that i can change out to have less weight? Thanx.

There are a million other things you can do that are cheaper and will drop more tenths before you need to worry about that.

Yeah, but the guy that i can gets parts from is moving to another state in about a month and he can give me a really good deal on these two items installed if i were to do it before he leaves.

Save your money on something you really need or want.

I can get your a good deal on the shit my dog left, you may not need it, but it's a great deal, so why not pick it up?

That's true and lets say i do what your talking about and get other mods and later on decide to get a driveshaft and flywheel, i would have missed a very good opportunity.

How much of a deal are we talking about here? If its a 1 in a lifetime chance and you really want those items then go for it.

I'd say go for it, those arent the first upgrades I'd get but I'd definately be getting those sometime in the future, and a deal is a deal.

Is it worth it to you? It wouldn't be for me, but again that is me. You do what you want to though.
If it is worth it to you then go ahead and have at it.

Well, i've pretty much got my mind made up about getting it, i just want to know what kind of performance gains i will have and how much weight will be lost?

you'll lose about 30-40 pounds and lose maybe half a tenth. you'll see the most gains in how fast your motor picks up revs and drops them.

make sure the imbalance is right!!!! otherwise the motor will simply shake itself apart and you'll ruin it.

also, some flywheels on 4.6s have different #s of flywheel bolts, so check that too.

Make sure it's an 8-bolt flywheel

Make sure it's an 8-bolt flywheel

What does that mean?

What does that mean?

means there's 8 bolts that hold the flywheel on the back of the crankshaft.

What if its not, does that mean that it wont fit or its just a cheap flywheel?

Wont bolt up I'm guessing. Havent done much with modulars.

Some mods have 6 bolt cranks and some have 8. I dont know which ones exactly, but the 4.6 Cobra comes to mind as having 8.

That means that it won't fit. I believe that mustangs have come in 6 and 8, like he said, your's is 8.
