what is an f22b2 in 94 accord lx?monkeyboy383 06-19-2004, 06:47 PM hey, i have a 94 accord lx wagon, and my engine code is F22B2. i saw that engine code list in the civic forum.. but mine doesn't match any of those. it's a 2.2L engine, and i'm pretty sure it has vtec... but can anyone tell me more in kinda laymens terms (not too familiar with hindas and their engines). thanks for any help tenguzero 06-20-2004, 01:17 AM 2.2L - 130hp - SOHC non-VTEC --> Standard in the DX and LX trim lines. The EX has an F22b1 (2.2L - 145hp - SOHC VTEC) SenseiAccord 06-20-2004, 03:00 AM well if ur valve cover says vtec... then pretty sure it is a vtec engine. Like what tenguzero said... im pretty sure ur car is non-vtec b/c no LX accord comes with vtec stock except for the generations of accords after urs.. monkeyboy383 06-20-2004, 03:04 AM i know i don't have an ex... i mean maybe i'm wrong, but i can feel something kick in... i mean i floor it from a stand still and it takes off at about the speed my 93 escort lx with 88hp did... but then at i'm guessing somewhere around 3k rpm it pulls harder and the tach moves pretty quick to 6.25k (redline)... and it torque stears like crazy. looking at the engine code list again, f22 is non vtec. but what does the b2 mean in f22b2? and if it's not vtec then i'd really like to drive something that is... lol. idk... i can't say much seeing as the only other car i've actually driven is my 93 escort lx with it's whopping 88hp... but it definatly feels like there's an extra kick that isn't just the throttle. o well, maybe i'm crazy... can anyone tell me what it is then since it's probly not vtec? thanks DJ Brady 06-20-2004, 12:05 PM it's simply the 'power range' of your car. Every engine in every car has a 'peak' in it's power curve. Yours starts about 3500 and pulls to roughly 700 - 1000 below redline. That's what you're feeling. It could also be something similar to what my '90 Prelude had, a vacuum controlled 'second butterfly' in the throttle body that opened at 4000 RPM. I could feel that kick in when I stomped it from low RPM's. tenguzero 06-20-2004, 02:32 PM F22 is the engine series designation for 5th gen I-4 Accords. It is (usually) a constant throughout a model's line, with different years/trims sporting different variants in the series. For instance: Accords --> F-series engines. Prelude --> H-series, Integra --> B-series, etc. The "B1" (EX VTEC) and "B2" (DX, LX non-VTEC) are just the two variants that were available for the '94 Accord models. monkeyboy383 06-20-2004, 07:01 PM o, ok, thanks guys. i was just kinda clinging on to the hope i had vtec... but i like i said before... now i REALLY wanna drive one with vtec. o well, thanks guys, and thanks for the in-depth code explanation. later 92lx 06-20-2004, 09:39 PM SOHC vtec is barely noticable ...especially in the f22b1 :P. In all seriousness, it's there for one reason: gas mileage. DOHC vtec is a totally different ball game though. - Nathan vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
