Im just wondering what makes one sealed box better than another like what makes Qlogic or homebuilt boxes better than say the walmart box? Other than being small in size I dont see a real probelm with the walmart box its solid doesnt leak air and fits nicely in my cab. Are other higher quality boxes built out of better material or what

the "walmart box" uses wood that is not as rigid as MDF or fiberglass but the biggest reason is that home made (or a few select premades) are designed with a total air volume to match the specific sub speaker. This is critical for good bass - especially if you are talking about ported or bandpass.

so the type of wood used has a large effect on how it sounds?

yea, mdf (medium density fiberboard) is an amorphous material that does not vibrate easily, and if it's thick enough, doesn't flex too much either.
