Crazy Thursday Night (po-po and wrx vs. sti)

Thursday nights in my city (San Antonio) are when just about everyone goes out cruisin/racing/chillin. So anyway, me and my friend decide to go cruise. He's got a 2002 wrx w/ headers, exhaust, downpipe, intake, and some other stuff. He hasn't ran it at the track since he was stock so we aren't sure what he's running. Well anyway, we call some people so meet up at a spot before we go to "the spot." Those people call other people, and before we know it we have about 20 cars rolling with us. Some were nice, some were very nice, and some were rice ;) Some highlights were a really nice gsx who said he was running 11's. His engine bay was CLEAN as it gets, with a larger turbo, so I believe him. There was a 2004 STI, the owner is real cool, I've known him for a while. There was a b16 crx and quite a few h22 preludes. (sorry If i'm wrong with the Honda engines, I don't follow honda that much :grinno:
Anyway, we all start riding to the spot, and we are running about 20 cars deep. The sound was crazy, and the sight of all of us was rather nice.
Well anyway, I was in shock when we got there. There was no less than 100 cars out that night all in one spot. There was such a variety. From a 10-sec chevelle and other muslce cars, to Rx7's, supras, dsm's, some nicer hondas, some nice trucks, and a bunch of rice. There was also 3 Srt-4's. One of them is a silver 2004 which is my buddy's car. Anyway, we're all just chillin walkin around the cars (very fnf I know I'm sorry :nono: , but it was all in fun) Eventually, people decide to go down to highway 151 which is where the actual racing goes on. (stoplight highway).
About 30 or so cars left at the same time traveling 2-wide. This was rather crazy, and we almost got into a wreck as someone up front slammed on the brakes real hard, i smelled clutch for a few minutes so someone forgot how to drive
Anyway, first race was the 2004 Srt-4 (my bro's) vs. a Turbo civic. They took off from about a 20 mph roll, and the SRT pulled on him all the way. He said he heard the civic spray towards the end in 4th, but he wasn't sure as he turned and left after losing. Some other cars raced, to my surprise a crx killed a ws6 by at least a few lengths. (who knew?)
Finally, we all get back to the spot just chillin and relaxin (mind you we haven't raced yet in the wrx) Suddently 3 cruisers all come out at once and they get out their cars and start walking toward us. My friend got scared cause he was stuck in the middle of a bunch of cars. The office said, "hold on there son", but after it was clear we took off fast as hell, most of us made it out, a few cars got caught, who knows what happened to them.
So we drive way the hell oughtta there scared as shit, hoping the cop didn't write his plates down. So we get a call about where some other people went. We show up and to my surprise there is a brand new, less than a week old 2005 silver STI. The owner was real cool and lemme look inside and play around with stuff. When u turn the car on, all the gauges go all the way around and back, it looks REALLY nice all together. Again, we get word that cops are on the way so we take off.
We're just cruisin home going about 90 when the STI pulls up next to us on the highway.
We werent expecting him at all so we gently accelerate to 100, i wave at him and yell "3 honks and we go" After the third honk both cars took off. We were in 4th, who knows where he was with his 6 speed. Anyway, we were right on his rear fender until 130, when he started to pull away, and the governor was getting ready to kick in at 140. We stopped at a parking lot and talked for a bit. The guy was paying 700 a month for his STI!! Holy crap. Anyway, he was cool, and we planned on meeting again sometime next week.
Overall, a damn fun night, and i was in a race where the roll started from 100. How many people can say that? hahaha :naughty:

CLIFFNOTES:
SRT-4 v. Tubo Civic = SRT by lengths
2005 STI vs. mild modded WRX - 100 mph roll, stop at 140, STI by a 2 lengths
"ricer scramble" i guess u could call it haha

Sounds like a cool night at the street races. Dang $700 a month, and I complain about the $430 a month I am paying. Sheesh.....

if you were running in a wrx, there is no governor at 140.
the 05 models for ANY car are not out yet, they don't come out til fall.

so it was on 04, if it exists at all... ;)

the cops couldn't do anything without proof.
just ask questions.
so if you're chilling at the spot, why run?
you didn't do anything.

Sounds like a great night, you met a pretty cool guy.

One thing i don't understand is why people pay 700 bucks a month for a car. My maintenance, gas, insurance is less then 300 bucks a month. Considering my car though, i guess i shouldn't comment.

LOL great night, great story! :smokin:

yeah it was definitely a thrilling night!

I'm pretty sure it was a 2005 though, he had less than a few hundred miles on it, and it looked a bit different. The gauges went all the way around when it turned on, i've never seen 2004's do that?

05 STi's are out ;) they come with a radio now

If he was paying $700 a month he must have been on like a 3 year payment plan.

if it's a bunch of cars in a lot, and no evidence of racing, why leave?

if you're at the races, yeah, leave.

keep in mind that the laws in cali are bit more strict regarding street racing than the rest of the country... ;)

I live in San Antonio, TX

Street racing has taken over right now, everybody goes to the races just about every night. It's sick. A lot of rice though, :uhoh:

I know first hand how laws in cali are strict I lived here all my life, thats why I was suprised at the stuff you could get away with in a different city ;)

Street racing sounds tight in SA...But the real mad Big T racing is in H Town and the DF Dub. If you ever travel that far east, hit me up, Ill show you the hot shit in Dallas

I like staying with a big group of people. That way I can be assured that their is someone more desirable to pluck from the gathering then me. I know if I was a cop I'd choose the most riced out car and pull him over but thats just my way of doing things. Not to mention it gives me time to take a leisurely strole to my car instead of a frantic sprint.

What colour are you going for?

flylwsi
06-28-2004, 11:25 AM
"burn your retinae out of your head" yellow.

i picked it last week.
i was looking at s2000/nsx yellow, but it's 3 stage. expensive.
ITR phoenix yellow didn't have a pearl...

so we chose a custom yellow that's hella bright, and we're adding a pearl to it.
this thing will move like crazy under the light...
